  Clock offset per port
Posted by: DJISF - 08-10-2021, 10:17 AM - Forum: MRCC Feature Requests - Replies (3)

I'd love to be able to set a MIDI clock offset per port. I have a slicer pedal, and it needs to be tied super tight to the rhythm. It would be nice to be able to set an individual clock offset for that port to dial it in.

  ACME-4 midi clock
Posted by: floris - 08-10-2021, 05:42 AM - Forum: Hardware MIDI Connectivity - Replies (14)

Just got the MRCC, love it.
Unfortunately I cannot get my midi clock, the SND ACME4, to work with it.
The way I use the ACME4 is that its 4 midi outputs are directly connected to my drummachine, sequencer, etc.
Any midi data other than clock stuff I need to send to either of those devices I send to ACME4s USB port which has four virtual outputs corresponding with the midi outputs.
This worked fine with the iconnectivity audio4+ (which is otherwise pretty shite), but I was hoping to be able to ditch that and use the MRCC but I can't - probably because the MRCC only has one output for each USB host...

So, is there the possibility of adding virtual outputs on USB host connections? The Acme4 is pretty central to my setup and I would love to get this to work.

thanks!

Hi,

Has the MRCC an API we can exploit like with the NDLR ?

Create routings on the ROUTING screen
Posted by: fgeorgy - 08-08-2021, 04:00 AM - Forum: MRCC Feature Requests - No Replies

Hi,

My understanding is that the ROUTING screen only allow to view the current routing and set the modifiers and filters.

I would love to be able to edit (and create) the routing in that same screen. This would greatly help me because, since I'm heavy color blind, I can't make the difference between some of the LED colors (for example, dim blue, blue, white are the same for me, no difference in my eyes; red/green the same).

Thanks!

  Preset save / load
Posted by: fgeorgy - 08-08-2021, 03:53 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (9)

Hi,

I wonder if my unit is defective or not.

When I press shift + black-button to save a preset, nothing happens. I used to see a message "Preset #3 saved" or something similar.

At first I thought that my shift button was not working, but I tested it with shift+encoder to speed up the scroll values when editing a modifier.

Is there something I'm missing regarding save/load of presets?

EDIT: I almost can't load any preset. My shift button works fine with other features (it works fine to fast scroll for example). In fact, all the buttons work fine. But loading or saving preset is almost impossible. I must try 10-20x to get the message "Preset User 2 loaded /saved"). Is this a known issue? Is there a possibility to load/save presets with a MIDI message? sysex? PC msg?

Thanks for any help.

How to known the active preset?
Posted by: fgeorgy - 08-08-2021, 03:45 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (9)

Hi,

How do I know which preset is active?
Chosen but not necessarily read
If I go into the TOOLS LOAD/SAVE screen, the displayed preset name is the last chosen in that screen. Chosen but not necessarily read. For example, if I load the USER 1 preset it will become the active preset. Now, if I scroll through the presets and stop on Factory for example, the preset User 1 will still be the active preset but FACTORY will remain displayed in the screen. This is very confusing.

Hairpulling rewarded: Studio One DAW integration
Posted by: Dark Waves - 08-08-2021, 03:34 AM - Forum: Computer MIDI Connectivity - Replies (4)

Well, there may or may not be any questions in this post, but to document a few details that could potentially help someone else, or at least serve as a reference for myself in the likely event that I'll forget some elements of the setup, I'll describe what it took to pass MIDI from controller to PC to MRCC to synth (well, that last part is easy).

[Edit: NOTE! This entire post, and my first follow up below, turned out to be a massive diversion from a proper workflow, so should just be ignored by all except for gluttons for punishment.  The entry further below (from today) will explain.]

My objective today was to have my controller keyboard / sequencer, the Novation 61SL mk3, to be seen by it's companion Components software, while also doing it's regular duty playing notes on various things, both virtual in the DAW, and physical via MRCC.  Since connecting the SL via USB to the MRCC did not result in the Components software connecting to it (nor was there the indicative 'ding' from the PC announcing a device being discovered) despite passing routed data to synths, I decided to connect the SL directly to the PC and then try to route to the MRCC using the PC device port there, which is where the hairpulling started.  I should mention here that in addition to being new to the MRCC, I've also only recently begun to use my Studio One 5.x DAW, and for that matter most everything else in my setup, so there's a significant aspect of needing to get up to speed on multiple systems at once, which is no mean feat, even though my theoretical understanding is more than adequate; just haven't ever had the opportunity to physically familiarize myself with it all, especially the DAW.

If there are other ways of accomplishing this relatively common setup objective, I'd certainly like to hear what they are, but for me it worked out that setting up the DAW properly was critical to passing the data through.  Looking in the Device Manager in Windows 10 did not reveal the MRCC so far as I could determine, but Studio One did show a list of the 12 virtual connections if I looked at either the 'receive from' or 'send to' dropdowns in the setup of other external devices (such as the controller), beginning with 'MRCC' and 'MIDIOUT 2 (MRCC)' through to 'MIDIOUT 12 (MRCC).'  However, selecting one of these as a choice did not appear to result in the MRCC or downstream devices receiving a signal.  This is where the considerable hairpulling came into play.  For all I knew, the DAW might not even be necessary to accomplish the task, but at the least it should be capable, and I since worked out how.

In addition to the devices already listed in the 'External Devices' part of Studio One's setup box, the desired MRCC port needed to be added as a device as well (so you have to create, i.e. 'add' one, as it's obviously not already in the list of preselected equipment choices) and then you still have to configure it to 'Send To' itself (this is one of those aspects of software configuration that is not particularly intuitive), and THEN, since you still have no joy from this configuration yet, you must, apparently, create a track in the sequencer part of the DAW using the newly created MRCC device as an external instrument and do a bit of final setup on the track, things like MIDI channel assignment and controller source selection, in my case the Novation SL.  After all that, I finally got my synth on MRCC DIN output 1 to play.

Now that this has been worked out, next I'd like to see if feeding the controller through the MRCC will still allow it's librarian program to connect to it, although I'm a bit skeptical, but we'll see tomorrow or whenever as it's too late now to open more cans of worms.

  NDLR powered by MRCC
Posted by: fgeorgy - 08-08-2021, 02:28 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (8)

Hi,

Is there any risk powering the NDLR from a USB Host port on the MRCC?

More generally, what is the best way to connect NDLR, MRCC, 4 hardware synth (DIN) and Ableton Live?

My idea is :

- Mac running Ableton Live --> PC USB on the MRCC (send/received through "virtual" midi cables)
- MRCC USB host A --> NDLR USB (send/received through "virtual" midi cables)
- MRCC DIN OUT 1..4 --> synths (send only)

Ableton will run the master clock.

I don't think I have to use any of the NDLR DIN port since all the messages can be sent/received through the MRCC USB virtual cables.

I'll hook everything up as soon as I can find a couple of hours available here...

  routing question
Posted by: Nelson Baboon - 08-07-2021, 06:12 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (5)

I'm currently a bit lost, and trying to set up some more complex routings.

I have 2 mrccs connected. Let's call them mrcc1 and mrcc2.

The second one is next to a squarp pyramid sequencer. I have plugged the usb port from the pyramid into the usb port 1 on mrcc2.

Now, one of the things that I'm not sure about is the directionality of this connection between the mrccs. Obviously, the ethernet cable itself doesn't establish a master/slave relationship, so I'm a bit confused. Up until now, i've been assuming that I had to set up the routings on mrcc1 so that I could send data to either mrcc. But if there is no direction to the connection, that wouldn't matter?

Where should I set up this routing, and how exactly would I do it? Say, if I wanted to record from a keyboard into the pyramid? (the keyboard is right by the second mrcc also). So, if I plug the midi out of the keyboard into the the din input one of mrcc2, i should be able to route these like any other in/out connections? But if I wanted to connect to this keyboard from a midi controller near the other mrcc - how exactly would I do this?

If I figure this all out tonight I will post. I guess the idea is to set this up step by step and test whether it's working at each step.

  Channel Modifier
Posted by: fgeorgy - 08-07-2021, 08:02 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (2)

Hi,

Has anybody successfully used the Channel Modifier ?

I route DIN IN 1 to USB PC Virt 1. And I added a Ch3 modifier (in the ROUTING screen). But, the messages I send from my device arrive in the PC with the original port. I would like to force the channel when they arrive in the PC port.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Ok, I found how to it.

In the routing screen, you assign modifiers SLOTS and not the new value itself. I don't know how, but I managed to access the modifier configuration and there I can map the channels.

I have read the user manual at least twice but this was still not clear. Fiddling with the menus and the buttons (clicking everywhere) is finally the best way (for me) to learn how to tame this beast.
