  can i verify 2 mrccs vs 1 + splitter vs all 3?
Posted by: Nelson Baboon - 08-02-2021, 05:27 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (1)

I'm poised to order a second mrcc to get in on the current batch. Now that I'm more confident about the routings, i'm going to try a bunch of stuff tonight, but I'm really liking the idea of a second one, and minimizing long midi and usb cables all over the place......

I purchased the remote with my mrcc, and that's my next little task. To set up the remote with some din connections, and get that working.

now, as I understand it - once you  have this new splitter cable, one will be able to set up 2 mrccs with the remote also, but for now, one must choose between the second mrcc and the remote? (you mentioned building our own splitter cable, but i don't think i'd be able to do that).

  Top level panic signal
Posted by: Dark Waves - 08-02-2021, 01:58 PM - Forum: MRCC Feature Requests - Replies (4)

I've made good use already of the All Notes Off panic signal to clear stuck notes on a particular synth, by un-routing the MRCC connection (temporarily deselecting the destination) which automatically sends that command.  Since I only had one simple thing going, it was fairly easy, the routing combination was already lit and selected.  In a more complicated setup (to which I aspire) finding the particular routing combination could be a bit fiddly and take some time, so it seems like it would be nice to achieve an All Notes Off system-wide from the top level of the device, say either holding a particular button for 3-5 seconds, or perhaps a special combination press of 2 or 3 buttons.  In addition to being directly accessible at all times, it would also save the step of needing to remake the connection, assuming one wants to continue using it.

Dreamland

I saw the fabrics line up in the window of the garment district.

They were arranged in colors of various vibrant luminosities.

The outside world appeared to me like that of a dog's eye.

But, through the window, that window, I was Dorothy of Oz.

special features for mrcc + ndlr?
Posted by: Nelson Baboon - 08-02-2021, 12:37 PM - Forum: MRCC Feature Requests - Replies (2)

I think that some people here will have both instruments. I don't have anything specific in my mind at this point, but I'd love there to be some 'perks' for owners of both. What could it be? special fx for processing the ndlr? Not sure otherwise.

  software editor?
Posted by: Nelson Baboon - 08-02-2021, 12:34 PM - Forum: MRCC Feature Requests - Replies (27)

oh, how i'd love to be able to edit and view everything on a big screen. I think that the screen on the mrcc is pretty good - it's bright, and i can read it, but i have to hunch over and squint a bit, and since most people will be connected through the computer anyway?

I suppose that all you 'young uns' will care less about this, but i think that it would be a HUGE help here.

  totally confused/usb ports
Posted by: Nelson Baboon - 08-02-2021, 11:24 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (5)

every time i try to get the answer by RTFM I get more confused.

here is the first (am i missing something here?) question. The docs tend to refer to inputs and outputs without any kind of qualification.

Can someone explain to me what exactly are the 12 buttons beneath the 5 pin connectors? I started out by assuming that these only referenced the din ports, but other parts of the docs seem to say that these represent the virtual ports (so would be what I see in Ableton Live, for instance)?

I'm trying, as an experiment to do something that I thought was pretty simple (it's not accomplishing much at this point - i'm just trying to figure out how to do 'stuff' with the mrcc).

I have a sequencer sending its data to Live. Before the mrcc, i would choose the sequencer as the input, and then send to the synth. Simple.

So, i'm trying to figure out how to do this through the mrcc but still see the ports (when available) in Live. I have the synth connected to the host port A on the MRCC, so I would no longer be able to choose the synth itself in Live. But thus far i've had no success in setting this up (also have the pc port connected). I'm so confused at this point i couldn't even tell you what is working and what isn't working. Obviously (?) I need to have the host port send the midi out to the synth, but I spent about an hour at this (pathetically) last night, with no success. I am not working well with the manual at all.

I'm starting to infer that I need to make a selection from the 1-12 buttons, which represent the virtual ports that I see in Live?

Can I be the only one who is confused about how the usb actually works, and what all of the buttons represent?

Edit: WTF? now it is working. i could swear that i tried this over and over last night. it looks like connecting the pc port input to the host port output is working, which is what i thought last night. it looks like my initial assumption that the 1-12 buttons wouldn't be used here was correct. But I'm still not sure what they are beyond setting up the din connections. I now have the sequencer data coming in through the pc port, playing out the host port to the synth, and then doubling out a a din port to another synth. hmmmm.

debating whether i should just delete this, or maybe leave in the post for anyone who is also initially confused. I wish I could figure out what I failed to do last night, and why it's working so easily this morning.

Information More same type MODS - CC
Posted by: User - 08-01-2021, 03:47 PM - Forum: MRCC Feature Requests - Replies (1)

In another thread I learned that throughout the MRCC it is possible to set a total of only 6 CC modifiers - to be divided into all input devices (midi/usb), output. This is a very small amount that can be used with just one device. Usually, one CC is not changed and a certain group (e.g. for USB devices, where it is not possible to configure them without a computer), or for strangely controlled devices like Volca Drum (e.g. the lack of velocity and other parameters in single/multi-channel mode).

Therefore, I have a proposal that, as it is done in channel mapping, one CC module would contain several IN-OUT modifiers. In example - one CC1 mod include set of 6 CC modifiers.

  Keith McMillen 12 Step
Posted by: katiecruel - 07-31-2021, 09:13 PM - Forum: Hardware MIDI Connectivity - Replies (1)

I'm having issues registering midi input from my Keith McMillen 12 step that I've plugged in via USB. It works when I plug it into my computer, but I'm not seeing any output from the MRCC's own midi monitor. I get a green light from the USB port and I've tried selecting all the "virtual cables" and routing them to different devices but nothing's showing up in the MRCC or any connected devices. I'm wondering if there's a step I'm missing here involving using midi, or if the 12 step is unsupported/needing more setup. I've updated both the MRCC and the 12 step to the latest firmware. I have possible workarounds if I can dig up the midi expander which would just use regular 5 pin cables, but I'd love to make use of the MRCC's USB ports where it makes sense to. Let me know if there's any additional information I can supply!

Update: After a couple hours banging my head against the wall and having trouble keeping track of my work, I literally turned the MRCC on and off with both of the USB devices (this and the Squarp pyramid I've mentioned issues with in the other thread) I've been having trouble with plugged in, and they seemed to work this time. Not sure what clicked, and I'm desperately afraid after getting to the edge of sleep on this problem it's going to all be back to square one in the morning. But it seems like it there's something that needs to happen for the MRCC to "recognize" a midi device that I can force with a reset sometimes. Rewiring my MRCC tomorrow to be responsive to these changes, will update if I get any interesting results.

poorly articulated question about the midi in/out ports
Posted by: Nelson Baboon - 07-31-2021, 07:28 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (3)

I don't know the lingo yet, and i'm just digging into the mrcc. I suspect that the answer to my question is in the manual, but I'm not finding it quick at this point to open the manual with the goal of finding the answer to a rather vague question.

So, bear with me.

What I'm wondering is whether one can name the input and output ports in the mrcc so that these names are communicated to my software. Most specifically, right now, in Ableton Live, I can choose the mrcc ports, but they are all generically named. This would come in handy in routing midi to and from the MRCC.

hope the question makes sense. Maybe most people are using this in a more stand alone capacity, but I'm trying to figure out to what degree it can replace my current midi interfaces, which I don't much like. (in which case, i plan to buy a second mrcc)

  USB and Sysex
Posted by: -CALC- - 07-31-2021, 11:49 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (5)

Hey There folks.

Happy recipient of the MRCC here... its a bit of a game changer for my room.... no more reaching for MIDI cables or re-plumbing every other day... Hooray!

I have found a little idiosyncrasy though, this might be a very fringe case but non the less....

I am using a Novation Circuit Tracks MIDI via USB Host A, when I patch this through to the MIDI Din port 1 on channel 1 to drive a Buchla Easel command 208C all is good... until I start navigating around the Circuit Tracks. The Sysex messages sent when changing a view or page on Circuit Tracks seem to be randomly combining with a note message to trigger a very high note. I noticed that some of the MIDI notes are also being stopped outputting while navigating around the Circuit Tracks too.

This is also the same on the Circuit Rhythm again I'm fairly certain it's caused by the sysex messages being sent out of the USB on the Circuits.

When I switch to a Din output on the Circuit Tracks or Rhythm this problem is not there. The sysex messages are not being sent out of the DIN ports on the Circuits so that makes sense.

The issue is also not there when I send MIDI from Circuit's USB to other synths either so it could be something within the Buchla 208C's MIDI implementation not enjoying being sent a spurious sysex message.

So for my two pence.... it would be great if Sysex was a filter option which I think would solve the issue from an MRCC perspective.

I work at Novation too so I'll be asking the engineers about the need for these sysex messages. I'm not 100% certain they are actually needed unless its a requirement for the Novation components software to manage the synth editor in Circuit Tracks. I certainly don't see any particular need for these Sysex messages in the Circuit Rhythm though.

The good news is that I can confirm that (except this strange sysex thing with Buchla) the Novation Circuit Tracks and Circuit Rhythm are class compliant enough to happily work with the USB host ports. As does the Summit and Peak synths.
I'll be testing out the Launchpads Mk3's Launchkey Mk3s, SL MKIII, Bass Station 2 and the LaunchControl XL in due course soon too so will report back on their compliance.

Sadly the Monome Norns music computer isn't class compliant enough for MRCC to show up via USB though.

Other than this small (and not insurmountable) issue MRCC is a joy to use and is taking pride of place in the studio.

Cheers
