  Dreamy Trip Hop NDLR
Posted by: JCFAX81 - 10-04-2020, 07:57 AM - Forum: Show me what you got! - No Replies

Hello,

Back once again with a dreamy trip hop inspired jam.

I recorded some ndlr sequences into the Cycles and experimented until I came up with something I liked.

Headphones recommended ?

  MIDI Monitor

Hi,

I was thinking you could use one of the empty shift-menu pages to host a MIDI monitor. Could be very useful to have one without the need of a computer..
Bless,

  NDLR Synthwave
Posted by: JCFAX81 - 09-26-2020, 05:21 AM - Forum: Show me what you got! - Replies (1)

Hello,

Came out of my comfort zone on this one and tried a synthwave inspired jam....went over 100 bpm for the first time of my model:cycles!

Again, all music written on the ndlr and recorded into the model:cycles sequencer.

Headphones recommended ?

  NDLR + EP + theremin-ish lead
Posted by: KingKrog - 09-20-2020, 12:41 PM - Forum: Show me what you got! - No Replies

Another NDLR jam. With added electric piano, and a theremin-like lead. Still struggling with the getting the mix right on these recordings, but having a lot of fun.

  Poly Chain Output
Posted by: LeVillian - 09-19-2020, 06:23 PM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (2)

I have the poly chain set to 4 and the NDLR is only sending notes on/off to channels 3 and 4.  This is occurring both in my DAW and in the Pocket MIDI utility.  Any idea why channels 1&2 are note firing off?

Brand new NDLR won't turn on?
Posted by: Electro Something - 09-19-2020, 01:56 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (7)

Ok hopefully I'm just being a total idiot here, but I just got a brand new NDLR from Perfect Circuit.  I plug it into a powered-USB source and nothing happens.  I've tried other USB sources and different cables, and nada.

When I press a button on the NDLR I see a little orange light flashing under the 'II' button, but that's it.

Am I just being a moron?  Or did I buy a lemon?  Please say I'm just a moron, lol.   Huh

Thanks!

  Couple of timing issues
Posted by: The Elf - 09-19-2020, 03:19 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (10)

I'm really liking the NDLR so far, but I have a couple of small issues...

1) The option to quantise chord changes really should have a 'bar' option. 1/4 note is too tight to always get a clean change. I notice this subject has been brought up before - I'd like to add my voice to the call for this.

2) Although I've got chord quantisation set to 1/4 note, I'm noticing that a repeating 1/8th Motif note during the last 1/4 note changes to the new chord if I've triggered a new chord during the last 1/4, but before the last 1/8th. This makes part of my chordal change jump in early before the next bar. This is using an external keyboard to trigger the chord changes.

3) When playback begins from MIDI clock, a Drone set to play only on chord changes does not trigger at all until a chord change is received, even though it shows as active on the NLDR's screen.

I'm always prepared to be told that it is me that is doing something dumb, so feel free to tell me if that's the case. I have read the manual through a couple of times, but it could always have missed something.

  Late night NDLR jam

Enjoying the NDLR a lot! This is the first thing I've recorded as a full performance - I suddenly feel like i can actually just play music instead of worrying how I'm going to change chords on 3 devices at the same time.

Motif 1 vs Pad conflict (SOLVED)
Posted by: WaltCollinsMusic - 09-16-2020, 10:53 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (5)

EDIT: SOLVED - this was never a NDLR bug, but rather a bug in the MPC firmware.

I'm a brand new user, having just received my NDLR two days ago. So far I'm loving it!

My setup here is I am running NDLR via USB into my MPC Live 2, where I've set up 4 midi routes (one for each of Pad, Drone, Motif 1, Motif 2) to my synth, which is a Yamaha MX61 (in Performance mode, which is multitimbral 16 channel). I'm sending the 4 parts from the NDLR to separate MIDI channels on the MX61, as follows:

  • NDLR Pad to MIDI channel 15 on the MX, which is playing back with a synth keyboard patch.
  • NDLR Drone to MIDI channel 5, which is a compressed synth bass patch.
  • NDLR Motif 1 to channel 9, running a mini moog style synth lead.
  • NDLR Motif 2 to channel 4, running an organ patch.

So, the bad news is that I'm having a small problem when playing NDLR with this configuration above. I can run Pad, Drone, and Motif 2 just fine. But when I add Motif 1, the Pad part (seemingly ONLY the Pad part) is "choked", i.e. it loses sustain, and plays much shorter notes. It sounds like the sustain pedal isn't working on the Pad part whenever Motif 1 is playing.

I can provide more information, but I'm new here and not quite sure what details to offer.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
