NDLR Distorted recording of soft synth in Ableton
Posted by: Jadelane - 02-04-2020, 09:53 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (5)

Hi Guys,

Received my NDLR this morning and managed to spend a few hours with it. Before I set it up with my hardware synths I thought I’d test it with some soft synths within Ableton.

Got it working and triggering some lovely droney ambient & chord changes with Waldorf Nave. After recording a 15 min jam via ‘Resampling’ as I usually do, upon listening back to the recording it has loads of noise like a really low gain stage but was fine while recording and the noise wasn’t there, is this in fact midi information and I’ve not set up The NDLR correctly. Does anyone have a softsynth VST set-up guide within LIVE’s environment?

Thanks in advance.

Menu 4 Rhythm Editor for gate length
Posted by: Stalker - 02-03-2020, 09:56 PM - Forum: Feature Requests - Replies (8)

Just received my NDLR and its a very well thought out machine.

For me the main thing missing is being able to change the note lengths with the Rhythm Editor to make the notes have different gate lengths.
This is the main thing missing that would make it able to have a lot of funky variation.  I really feel that this is an essential feature in any advanced arpeggiator and was surprised to find out it only does Legato.

My understanding from the brief scan I have done on the forums is that for some reason implementing a knob for gate length would be hard?

I was wondering is this due to just the layout of the front panel or something else deeper in the coding????

If its just the layout I have a simple and intuitive suggestion.

What I would suggest is having a second page on Shift Menu 4 and have the circles of the rhythm editor exactly the same as before but the lines from the DOT control gate length rather than velocity.  This could be implemented in % or have a deeper setting that quantizes to 1/4 note etc.

I use synths like the new WASP clone etc that have no midi CC and need note length as the ADSR is only ADS and will only output legato or not work.

My apology's if this is old ground as I am new to NDLR.

Thank you.

Assigning LFOs to other LFOs in the mod matrix
Posted by: Smoky - 02-02-2020, 08:53 PM - Forum: Feature Requests - Replies (4)

On my Peak's mod matrix I can assign an LFO to control something, then I can assign another LFO to control that LFO. Then I can assign another LFO to control the second LFO, and so on.

When you set one or two of these to random the result can be very interesting. The machine starts to take over based on the programming, and can keep going forever.

I would love for my NDLR to have this next level of programming or "intelligence", so I can truly let it go and see where that takes things.

Music Semi-impromptu album (50% NDLR)
Posted by: pickletech - 01-29-2020, 06:57 AM - Forum: Show me what you got! - Replies (3)

Decided the time was right to attempt some proper recording, rather than just phone videos - ran an Alesis LineLink from a mixer to a laptop, so no overdubs.

Tracks 1 & 2 have the NDLR in the driving seat, hooked up to a Modal Skulpt, Roland D-05, Arturia MicroFreak and Behringer Neutron, plus clocking a Korg Volca Drum. The Neutron is also patched to get CV pitch from the MicroFreak through one of the variable attenuators, so there's the option to use that or MIDI or just make them fight! Track 2 is my first attempt with the Chord Sequencer.

(If you're interested, track 3 is a no-name Telecaster copy with a hex pickup into a Roland GR-30 and a patch that combines the finest ROMpler cello with simulated guitar feedback. Track 4 is a Behringer Deepmind 6 using its own arpeggiator for most of it, and a few seconds of the MicroFreak for an additional chord.)

If you'd like a copy to keep, just make it known that you're a fellow NDLR-er (that doesn't look right  Dodgy ) and I'll sort you out with a download code.

Any way to do borrowed chords/ non-diatonic
Posted by: Royalston - 01-28-2020, 01:18 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (4)

Hi,
I haven't received my NDLR yet but I'm wondering is there any way you can use borrowed or non-diatonic chords - or even just custom 'user' chords?

Thanks

Smile Just Got Mine!

Just had my NDLR delivered this morning! I had a chance to run home from work for lunch, and open it up and plug it in. Haven't had a chance to noodle, yet, but plugged it in and checked out all the menus. Looks great, and I can't wait to dive in this evening!

One odd thing I noticed, is that the Pentatonic minor scale only shows 4 notes on the display. Anyone else notice this?

Hey everyone,
my name is Jesse and I'm happy to be able to introduce myself as the newest member of the Conductive Labs team. I live here in Portland OR, where I organize entry level synthesizer DIY build workshops, as well as hosting a monthly synth jam through the Portland Synth Improvisor's Collective (PSIC). I am currently studying for an Electronics Engineering Technician AAS degree from Portland Community College where I am about a semester and a half away from graduating.

I have been watching this project from early on and was lucky enough to be involved in the beta testing of the NDLR and see it grow into one of the coolest devices in my studio. It's my goal to bring everything I can to the table and make a good thing better. You'll likely be seeing me mostly in the support forum where I'll be doing my best to get up to speed and help free up Darryl's cognitive load.  It may take me a minute to learn the lay of the land and I humbly appreciate your patience while I get the hang of things.

Thanks very much for having me, I look forward to NDLing with you!

Exclamation Import fee warning!!!
Posted by: ptiano - 01-26-2020, 11:01 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (22)

I am almost regretting buying this now... Haven't had the pleasure of playing with it yet. I am in Spain and I had to pay 130 euros in fees just to get it delivered, between national sales tax and import fees. That is almost half the value of the unit itself. I knew I would pay import fees but I thought it would be something reasonable. Now I ended up paying close to 500 euros for this product. That is a lot. It would be nice if you could sort out a European warehouse so the import tax costs could be calculated by whole sale stsndards and not retail, and we (the customer) would not be hit sooooo hard! I am sure most of us in Europe wouldn't have a problem with the price being slightly higher to get it... If it means not getting so screwed like I just did.
Best,
A disgruntled future user.
BTW I am totally looking forward to trying this out but I have a sour taste in my mouth now... I'm sure that'll change once I see how awesome NDLR is.
