  Soft Reboot
Posted by: Gonzinigonz - 03-22-2021, 02:20 PM - Forum: Feature Requests - No Replies

Would be great if we could have a menu entry for a soft reboot to drop into the boot menu.
Not that its something you do all the time, just seems a bit brute force to unplug it to get to the menu.
Mainly because the midi clock setting is there.
What constraints are there that the clock has to be initialised from the boot menu and not part of the normal settings menu?

  Notes Dropping With USB
Posted by: Gonzinigonz - 03-22-2021, 01:16 PM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (3)

Hi all
Had a thing going on which i didn't get to the bottom of.
I have been using the NDLR over USB either with a laptop or an Akai Force, which make a great combination i might add.
Noticed that if i assigned all four parts to one port over 4 channels that the pad / drone parts would drop notes on occasion.
Couldn't figure out why it was happening, i wondered if it was something i had set funny on the NDLR.
I changed it to use all four ports, so a port per part then it all started to play the parts correctly.
Not sure if its the Akai Force playing up, i don't 100% trust its firmware as has known issues with all sorts of things.
Didn't try on the 5 pin at the time.
Any ideas?

Cheers

Hi!
Today I've ordered my NDLR and can't wait for the shipping to me.

The NDLR looks very good and I will use it with my Waldorf Kyra.

Greetings from Germany!

  Simple MIDI monitor
Posted by: Oscar - 03-20-2021, 03:30 PM - Forum: Feature Requests - Replies (2)

If you have a tiny bit of memory left it would be nice if one of the unused shift-menu-buttons can be used for a simple MIDI monitor for the MIDI ins's. This would take only very few lines to add and would be very useful.

  CC Scale MODS
Posted by: House de Kris - 03-20-2021, 01:18 PM - Forum: Feature Requests - Replies (1)

I spent some time with the CC Scale MODS today, as manipulating CC data is one of my favorite pastimes. I must say that I really like the graphical depiction of input range of data and how that becomes the output range of data. It makes visualizing some tasks easier. But, for some simple functions I found it actually getting in the way, and a bit cumbersome. Call me 'old school,' but I'd really appreciate some way of entering 'straight line equation' data. It would just be more straight forward for the way I think. For example, to do a simple "add 3" to the data I have to subtract 3 from Source Hi (124) and add 3 to Destination Lo (3). I'll document that as:
Source Hi: 124, Source Lo: 0, Destination Hi: 127, Destination Lo: 3
Then, to subtract 3 from CC data:
Source Hi: 127, Source Lo: 3, Destination Hi: 124, Destination Lo: 0
To multiply by 2:
Source Hi: 63, Source Lo: 0, Destination Hi: 127, Destination Lo: 0
To divide by 2:
Source Hi: 127, Source Lo: 0, Destination Hi: 64, Destination Lo: 1
Although all that seems obvious, it forced me to think about representing simple concepts more than I liked.

To that end, I propose a simple modification to this screen. The bottom portion of the screen dedicated to to graphical representation of source and destination data appears to take up the equivalent of three lines of text. I would like when the encoder is twisted clockwise from the last data entry location of the current screen, the the bottom three lines be replaced with these three lines:

Y=mX+b
m:  1.0000
b:    0

The user could supply values for m and b. Of course, if any values were modified in the graphical screen, they would be reflected here in the equation screen. Likewise, any changes here would be reflected in the graphical depiction when the encoder is twisted counterclockwise returning us to that screen. The point being, you can enter your CC Scale MODS in either of two ways. These two entry methods don't fight or conflict with each other, but rather express the same data in two different ways.

Now, I do realize that setting m values with an encoder knob could pose quite a challenge. After all, it has to be a real number, not an integer. Perhaps limit it to five significant digits and allow the placement of the cursor under specific digits will allow faster value entry by the user. That way, divide by 2 (0.5) or divide by 5 (0.2) are easy, divide by 4 (0.25) not so bad, and divide by 3 (0.3333) would be manageable.

This change would really make working with CC# manipulations much easier - for those that think like me.

  CV Clock In?

Hi Jesse, is there a port to accept CV/Analogue Clock to clock the MRCC via an external clock source?

Thx!

  Clock IN from Volca Sync
Posted by: gopilot - 03-19-2021, 12:50 PM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (11)

I've been trying to get the NDLR to accept external clock from a volca drum using the Sync Out to the NDLR Clock IN.
I've set the NDLR Clock In to "ClkIn CV" yet the NDLR isn't affected by the volca's Tempo. Is it that the Sync rate isn't really CV but rather a simple square pulse?
My big question: is there a way to get Clock In from a volca?

  Explain rotation algorithm (pls?)
Posted by: Hoogerj - 03-17-2021, 01:57 PM - Forum: Advanced Features - Replies (13)

Hi,

First post on the forum, but been using NDLR for 5 months now. Very happy owner.

One thing I'm struggling with, is the beta function under (shift+menu) encoder 2. What is this rotation algorithm supposed to do? And is there a clear, n00b-proof explanation somewhere? The info that's under encoder 2 itself is a bit short, i think I need a step-by-step.

Thanks and keep on noodling Cool ,
John

  Various NDLR jams
Posted by: Law_of_23 - 03-16-2021, 06:04 PM - Forum: Show me what you got! - Replies (3)

Hi all,

So, been enjoying the NDLR for nearly a month now. Still plenty of investigating to do, but it seems to be working very well for me.

I've got a selection of jams up on my YouTube channel, and it feels like I can shamelessly plug myself here by advertising it to you fine people:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1ppwue...2SQ/videos

It's all kinda "melodic glitch", I guess that's the genre. "IDM" always sounds a bit pretentious. I like trying to combine pleasant melodies with stuttery, polyrhythmic, percussion. And then it's played under eye-gouging acid flashback visuals, which you may or may not want to actually sit through.

Hardware-wise we are:

Roland MC707 as the "brain" and then much of the noises. The NDLR goes MIDIA Out to the 707's MIDI In, which then normally assigns Channels 1+2 to Motifs, 3 for the Drone, and 4 for the Pad. At the minute I'm chord changing with the front panel of the NDLR - I experimented a bit with controlling chord changes by MIDI, but for the moment I'm mostly happy playing it by hand.

Novation AFX Station. Typically used for one of the Motifs or the Drone. Either way it's connected to the MIDI-1 Out of the 707 and I just assign the channels however I like. The audio is then fed back in to the 707.

BlackBox1010. Typically used for adding loops, although I've been experimenting recently with using it for another Motif - and even using one of the Motifs to control percussion, with some S&H LFO to create a more 'random' feel to the samples it plays. The audio is also fed back in to the 707.

The NDLR is powered from the BlackBox1010 via USB, and then takes the clock from the BlackBox. The BlackBox is plugged into the MIDI-2 Out of the 707 which is itself sending clock to the BlackBox so the real 'master' is the 707. It's a bit round-a-bout, but it keeps everything as sync'd as I want. The 707 is then connected to my PC via USB (which is why I'm not powering the NDLR with the 707 ...) so I can record and master stuff into Ableton. There is also often a cheeky bit of Izotope's StutterEdit added in with the mix for fun.

Video visuals, in case anyone was interested, are from a piece of software called Magic.

It'd be lovely if anyone fancies a listen. Any and all feedback gratefully received - either here or on YouTube.

Thanks for your time.

Peace and love,
Joel.
