  feature request - play SMF
Posted by: Gminorcoles - 03-11-2021, 07:51 AM - Forum: General Support - No Replies

Hi,
I am working on a device based on the teensy 4.1 that is a SMF player. It also has 5-pin midi in and out ( 2 in , 8 out) via a break-out kit I purchased, and has a USB 2.0 port and a mini USB port. It has a touch OLED screen.

The core features are
1.User connects device to computer and device appears as a USB drive.
2.User saves SMF to device over USB.
3. Device plays SMF using midi output ports.

Ancillary features
-Record Midi
-perform arbitrary operations - filtering, midi effects, on SMF files as they are played, or in recorded midi.

I am not good with electronics. I am a decent programmer so thus-far, the coding side of this hasnt given me any terrible problems. The soldering and the hardware is.

Your device could probably be enhanced to accommodate my core features. Maybe I could perform the firmware enhancements myself, although I don't know what platform you are using.

I am doing this only to give myself a tool which I cannot find anywhere, I am not a music gear OEM.

thx
George

  Pattern modulating Pattern number
Posted by: jmbara - 03-10-2021, 10:34 PM - Forum: Advanced Features - Replies (2)

Hi

I am a new owner of NLDR and am having great fun with it.  Love the set of constraints and variables selected by the NLDR team, love the logical control layout, and the graphic design and layout of the display.  I have a question for which I did not find an answer in the manual or in this forum.

I have stored different patterns in Pattern slots 22 trough 29.  I have corresponding Rhythms stored in Rhythm slots 22 to 29.
I am trying to sequence (modulate) these pairs [Patterns, Rhythms] via a Pattern stored in slot 21.  Pattern 21 is stored as notes (fixed range 1..40, and I am using range 22..29).  Patterns 22 trough 29 are stored as Chords. Not that this should matter but my Patterns are length 16 and my Rhythms are length 32 with 16 Ties and Rests; thus it is a 16/16 combination.
I have defined LFO-2 with a rate of 48 beats, a shape of Pattern 21, 100% probability.
I have one modulator using LFO-2 as source and Motif1 Pattern as destination (with Mod Destination Value = 1)
I have another modulator using LFO-2 as source and Motif1 Rhythm as destination (with Mod Destination Value =1)

I start everything with Play All.  LFO-2 is driving Rhythm slot changes as expected but is not driving any Pattern slot changes.  The Pattern remains the same while the Rhythm is changing.

What am I doing wrong?
Can the same LFO be used twice as a Mod Source in the modulation matrix?
Alternatively, can a Pattern based LFO drive the selection Pattern slots (numbers)?

Many thanks in advance for any help with this.  I realize I am stretching NLDR to also be a sequencer while it is mostly meant to be a noodler.

Question Combined shipping?
Posted by: Eamoex - 03-10-2021, 02:15 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (3)

Hi,

from what I see when placing a test order, it's "one item = one shipment", i.e. putting 2 NDLRs (and, possibly, one MRCC) in one parcel is not supported.

Am I right?

  Hi...my NDLR x 2 FW 1.073 is crashing alot
Posted by: Ghostz_of_Moar - 03-10-2021, 11:37 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (51)

My setup has the NDLR received clock from my aw4416 (midi in B) and midi notes/cc from my octatrack mk1(change chord and degree). I am doing this to achieve more specified control over which chord gets triggered for the pads.

Everything runs fine for a few minutes and then the NDLR freezes, so I have to unplug n replug for a reboot.

Am I missing something in regards to being able to use both midi inputs at the same time?

  MMRC USB connectivity
Posted by: MickG - 03-10-2021, 11:28 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (14)

I just discovered the MMRC - I've been waiting for a MIDI router as comprehensive as this for years!

I've just pre-ordered mine.

I have a quick question about USB client connectivity.

I see that each of the 4 USB client connectors provides access to 4 MIDI streams.

My question is: is it possible to connect 4 separate hardware MIDI devices to each USB client connector via the 'virtual MIDI cable' functionality? This would provide 16 USB MIDI connections.

Could I connect a 4-port USB MIDI hub to a USB client connector and then separately address each of the 4 ports via the single USB connector, and thus connect to 4 hardware MIDI devices which have DIN MIDI connectors?

Thanks, Mick

  Scale change issue
Posted by: Dirk Offringa - 03-10-2021, 12:28 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (12)

Hi, received my new NDLR yesterday, it's a pretty cool device, nice addition to my toolbox! And congrats for the UI, that's really well thought out, such a tiny screen yet very managable.

I ran into an issue though: in the chord sequencer, when I change scale, there's a hiccup: it looks like a "notes off" message is sent a quarter note before the change, which is too early

Here's an example of what happens. It's 128 BPM, a classic chord progression ||: Minor I - III - V - VII - Isus4 - Major I :||

Sorry didn't have a camera to record the screen, so you have a nice pic of the bridge over the river that crosses my village instead, but it's clearly audible. Happens on all 4 parts but one of the parts having a long release, it sounds like if a pad is not affected but it actually is (you can hear the release at the end of the video, it a motif actually not a pad)

I'm running the NDLR on external clock on midi Din port B.

I have been able to make it work smoothly once or twice, but I could not reproduce it: I suspect this is related to start/stop/continue messages

Any advice/suggestions would be welcome.

Cheers
Dirk

  Activity menu [shift] function suggestion
Posted by: acemonvw - 03-09-2021, 08:00 PM - Forum: Feature Requests - No Replies

Just a thought.

Right now, in the activity menu page, shift function does nothing.

What if by selecting the output part and holding [shift] up and down, you could transpose all note data going to that output?

Or there's a menu item to select what thing you'd want to do. Say [shift] + up starts an arpeggiator and [shift] + down stops it.

I would imagine this would function for ALL data being sent to that output (as filtering that would seem difficult, per midi channel).

Anyway, just dreaming about ways in which to improve what could be done in realtime.

  D.A.W. Behavioral Issues
Posted by: TvMcC - 03-09-2021, 05:50 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (8)

Hi All,

Not sure if there's a general topic for such, so I thought I'd attempt to create a thread we can all ask/answer/make issues known by way of.

For me, I am having an issue while recently connecting my NDLR to Logic Pro X, where it no longer allows any other hardware to engage Logics Cycle mode.

Anyone else experience this, or know a fix?

Don't worry, we can get a cure for the harsh ingredients in those carbs to get through these rough times together!

But in other news.. just sharing my 1st 2 attempts at playing with the wonderful Lil NDLR! Also big shouts to the crew for sorting me out on the forums...

btw...think i described somewhat what i did with these on the songs, 1 is private just to the Conductive Labs community as I will work on it for a release!

eybdoog - this isn't strictly NDLR, but was a delight to get it the day I was looking to finish this song!

In this next jam though, I decided to delve deep into how many synths, and soft synths I could control, and sendout CV/MIDI to manipulate some modular FX and pedals! Such fun times!

  Per channel MIDI output filtering
Posted by: acemonvw - 03-09-2021, 11:26 AM - Forum: Feature Requests - No Replies

I know that there is the modifier section for filtering data (with an option to have up to 4 different input/outputs for routing), but either I don't see what I'm specifically looking for or it doesn't yet exist.

Right now there is the PORT FLTR page, but it's really just ALL MIDI data for that port. For instance, if I select no midi notes to go to Channel 4 output, I simply go to that page and deactivate ALL MIDI notes. [url=https://conductivelabs.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1403][/url]

However, if I want to exclude most MIDI data except notes from channel 16 going in, that is more difficult.

In the MOTU MIDI Timepiece, this is implemented as a per output setting. So, say output 4 (where a MIDI cable is sent to a synthesizer), I ONLY want MIDI data on Channel 16 to bypass into it, I can do this fairly easily on the device (albeit the user interface is not great).

It would be nice to have what looks like PORT FLTR page, but PER MIDI CHANNEL. That way I can go, ok, output 4, I only want MIDI channel 16 notes getting in there... I could deactivate all other MIDI information from coming in.

One thing that would help (and is also implemented in the MOTU MIDI Timepiece) is to select all channels.

So in the MRCC, perhaps instead of a filter page like this:

MIDI OUTPUT CH: 4
                          clock.   note.    PC.    CC.    etc...
Channel 1:
Channel 2:
etc...
Channel 16:

It would look like this:

MIDI OUTPUT CH: 4
                          clock.   note.    PC.    CC.    etc...
All Channels:
Channel 1:
Channel 2:
etc...
Channel 16:

And when you select note under 'All Channels' everything beneath it would highlight:

MIDI OUTPUT CH: 4
                          clock.   note.    PC.    CC.    etc...
All Channels:                     X
Channel 1:                        X

Channel 2:                        X
etc...                                X
Channel 16:                      X

Then I could go to Channel 16 and activate the Note section for Channel 16.

MIDI OUTPUT CH: 4
                          clock.   note.    PC.    CC.    etc...

All Channels:                     X
Channel 1:                        X

Channel 2:                        X
etc...                                X
Channel 16:                      O

This seems the most intuitive way for me to manage filtering MIDI data, personally.
