I haven't owned a USB keyboard for almost 10 years . Being able to create/edit labels via the screen would be far more useful for me (even if it would be rather tedious). This is also one of those things that would be great if there was some desktop software that one could use to control the MRCC.

Its possible to connect 2 MRCCs together using a CAT6a shielded Ethernet cable to enjoy remote routing and lots more ports. But can you use a Remote 7 too? Yes you can, with a custom RJ45 splitter!

In this configuration, the Remote 7 will function as MIDI thru ports for MRCC outputs 1-5, rather than independently routable ports.

We plan on making a custom splitter some day, but everything takes forever... so if you want to make one for yourself its pretty easy.

We used an RJ45 splitter with the mandatory shielded connectors we found in a 2 pack on Amazon.com or Banggood.com, that looks like this:
   
It has to have all the pins connected straight through.
A 2 pack is nice, just in case the first try doesn't work out. This isn't an Ethernet hub or switch, don't use one of those it could damage something.

Modify the Splitter
On the side of the splitter with two RJ45 connectors, on the left side connector, use some electronics tweezers to lift 3 pins on the left side and 3 pins on the right side. Pry the pins up so they are vertical, being careful to leave the middle 2 pins intact.
Trim those 6 pins off with flush cutting wire cutters. Trim them as close to the housing as possible. 

Here's how mine looks after trimming the 6 pins off, you can see the two pins left in the middle:
   

That's it! Now use a shielded CAT6a cable to attach the first MRCC to the single connector side of the splitter. 
Attach the other MRCC using the connector where the 6 pins were removed.
Attach the Remote 7 with a shielded CAT6a cable to the connector with all the pins.

Here's mine... the white wire is going to the MRCC that will use the Remote 7 outputs. The green wire is going to a Remote 7 on my keyboard stand. The black wire is going to an MRCC in a 19 inch rack.
   

We tested connecting the MRCCs with shielded CAT6a cables, like the one we supply with the Remote 7. However, for a short run of 6 to 10 feet, you can probably get away with an MRCC to MRCC connection using a regular CAT5 cable if that's all you have. YMMV 
The cable from MRCC to the splitter, and splitter to The Remote 7 requires the shielded cable for any length, the kind with metal shrouded connectors.

This may be trivial, but as strange behavior it could be worth mentioning:

During initial setup of my MRCC I put it in a rack and, among other things, went through the menus and took note of the serial number for future reference, and also the ID and FW version and wrote them all down.  Yesterday, while confirming my OS version I noticed the ID had a memorable number that I didn't recall.  This made me curious enough to check today, and I found that both the serial number and ID in the display had changed since last week.

Before: SN: 010-0392-2104; ID# 43-35
Current: SN: 001-9999-2102; ID# 255-255

Checking the sticker on the back revealed a match to the original serial number.  I did update the OS to the current version today, but this change happened before.  Yesterday I did a couple of factory resets (see my thread about missing labels for the details), and it was only afterwards that I noticed the change, but can't say whether it is connected to that action or if it had already changed before.

I feel like there has to be a way to do this use case, but I'm having trouble figuring it out. In this particular case we have a sequencer plugged into USB sending data to a synthesizer and a drum machine on the MIDI out ports. I've been reading the manual and trying out a bunch of different features, but nothing seems to match my use case here. 

The issue here is that the particular synthesizer involved has no ability to set its MIDI in channel, so it's also playing notes for the drum machine data. The filtering option though seems to be all or nothing - I can have it turn off all MIDI note data being sent to a particular output, but not just for a certain channel. Is there some sort of setting I'm missing here where I can have an output only respond to a certain channel? Thankfully most gear has the ability to set an input channel, and I have some possible workarounds external to the MRCC, but wanted to put this use case out into the world in case anyone else has run into it and knows how to handle it.

Hi, I'm all set up using an Arturia keystep into the MRCC. This is driving a bunch of synths. The sequences themselves are in sync with my ERM multiclock (one of the outs from this is running into the Keystep midi in). But the timed effects like delays etc on all the synths are not receiving the midi clock. Looking at the MRCC the red clock triangle is displaying on the relevant row on the activity page as I believe it should be? 
I have merged other sequencing sources like the Elektron Octatrack so I can run multiple sequences if I want to. I figured midi was getting clogged but when I disable it doesn't resolve the clocking issue.

Previously I've been using the Blokkas Midihub and clocks from the ERM were hitting the synths and being synced up with no problem. I feel I must be missing something simple here, but I can't figure this from the manual. I wondered if anybody could help out? 

Finally I wondered if anybody knew of a way to quickly 'mute' a midi in and its corresponding outs on the MRCC? Perhaps this isn't an easy option and may need to be a requested feature in another thread..

sigh. here i am again, struggling to do something simple, but getting confused by the manual.



I just received mine a few days ago, direct from you - the firmware is 1.0.147. The manual says that as of 1.1.020, there should be a choice of 2 modes - copy 1-5 or remote 1-5. I see no evidence of that in the settings 2 menu, where this choice is supposed to be. the following is a bit confusing - we are already in the settings 2 menu, but then it says, "these are also found in the setting menu #2. ???



ok. my settings already had the remote enabled. the only other remote parameter that I see is R7 Ports, which gives me 2 choices. 1-5, and 13-17. I'm guessing that this is in copy mode? I see no choice of copy vs remote mode.



It also says that when the remote is enabled, the =Y symbol in the upper right "will illuminate". This did not happen until I power cycled the machine.

LOL - I was about to submit this when I realized that obviously ports 13-17 is the remote mode, and 1-5 copies those ports from the mrcc. We'll soon see.....



hmmmm - holding down the Y button doesn't cause anything else to light up. Not sure how to proceed, but I guess I'll just try stuff.



edit: about to give up. I am not seeing how to actually set up a routing. nothing i've seen thus far seems to match the manual exactly. When i hold the Y button, i don't see anything lighting up. When I'm on the activity screen page, and i hold the Y button, it is suppose to "show the 'rremote' routings, but I don't see anything changing. Which may just mean that I haven't set up any remote routings, but i am at an impasse here. I have no clue how to actually set these up.



I will stop now because I"m getting frustrated at this, and trying not to post while frustrated.....



Edit (wanted something positive in this post) - ah, see what's meant about the play button. Using this for troubleshooting. ok. back to work here. will only post if i figure out how to get the remote to respond.



sorry - keep on hoping that i can make progress, but I just keep on running into roadblocks, admittedly silly ones. but (and i promise - i am quitting after this comment, since i'm obviously starting to sound annoyed, both to you, I assume, and to myself. How many people start by reading a manual sequentially, cover to cover? I just can't work that way, and after a very brief period, generally try to dive in, and hoping for a helpful 'getting started' section. Given this, and I suspect I"m not alone in trying to rtfm, but in a more directed way, a little redundancy can't hurt? It can only be helpful if you mention that you need to press a key, that you give a hint as to where it is, even if you've mentioned it before. It can sometimes be surprisingly difficult to search for terms in a pdf.....it also really helps if somewhere there is a detailed diagram of the unit with all of the ports/buttons, etc, labeled, so if one can't find something, there is that reference.  I mean, I'm embarrassed to say this, but I'm looking at the tools/play notes page, and the docs say to play/pause by hitting the "tab-stop" button.



well, sorry - if i didn't feel so strongly that once i figure all of this out, this will fit in spectacularly with my work flow, I'd give up. But I am spending so much time trying to figure out the simplest things, and when i go back and look at the manual, it's not like I was being an idiot.



sorry ^2. I know that people don't like to read this stuff, but I put in a very, very strong vote for working on this manual so that idiots like me can figure it out way quicker. probably will spend a few more minutes trying to figure out ONE THING tonight, but i promise not to post any more negative stuff. It's sounding like I'm not pleased with my purchase, but I'm actually thrilled with it.

the hell with it. thought the cable was defective. replaced it, and i got it to work in the copy mode. I had to toggle the remote settings. Then put the original back, toggled the settings - and it worked. ok. cable works. remote works in copy mode. So, current status is that i have absolutely no clue as to how to set it up in remote mode. (thought maybe the Y button wasn't working, but pressing shift plus the Y gives me the light show. A small consolation, but i'll take anything.....

I'm poised to order a second mrcc to get in on the current batch. Now that I'm more confident about the routings, i'm going to try a bunch of stuff tonight, but I'm really liking the idea of a second one, and minimizing long midi and usb cables all over the place......

I purchased the remote with my mrcc, and that's my next little task. To set up the remote with some din connections, and get that working.

now, as I understand it - once you  have this new splitter cable, one will be able to set up 2 mrccs with the remote also, but for now, one must choose between the second mrcc and the remote? (you mentioned building our own splitter cable, but i don't think i'd be able to do that).

I've made good use already of the All Notes Off panic signal to clear stuck notes on a particular synth, by un-routing the MRCC connection (temporarily deselecting the destination) which automatically sends that command.  Since I only had one simple thing going, it was fairly easy, the routing combination was already lit and selected.  In a more complicated setup (to which I aspire) finding the particular routing combination could be a bit fiddly and take some time, so it seems like it would be nice to achieve an All Notes Off system-wide from the top level of the device, say either holding a particular button for 3-5 seconds, or perhaps a special combination press of 2 or 3 buttons.  In addition to being directly accessible at all times, it would also save the step of needing to remake the connection, assuming one wants to continue using it.

I think that some people here will have both instruments. I don't have anything specific in my mind at this point, but I'd love there to be some 'perks' for owners of both. What could it be? special fx for processing the ndlr? Not sure otherwise.
