  Shift Five Rabbit Hole
Posted by: Clint Goss - 03-26-2023, 11:51 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (4)

Stepped on a bit of a land mine while learning the NDLR interface ... (I'm using the encoder numbering from the Quick Start Guide):

  • Shift + Menu
  • Pattern Editor (press encoder #6)
  • Menu 5 (press encoder #8)

... gives me:

("Shift + Menu MENU 5: Under Construction!")

No problem ... except ...

Once I do this, I seem to be "stuck" in Shift Mode somehow. Whenever I go back to the Rhythm Editor, even after exiting and doing other stuff, and even when I click encoder #8 without holding Shift, I get the same "Shift + Menu ..." message as shown above. Shift seems to be "stuck" on ...

Maybe there IS nothing on the unshifted encoder 5, and it just happens to be showing the same "Shift + Menu ..." message?

I'm on firmware v1.1.079. Any assistance appreciated ...

Two computers at once. MIDI Connections: MRCC, SSP, & Ableton. USB how to do so?
Posted by: Kent - 03-26-2023, 08:34 AM - Forum: Computer MIDI Connectivity - Replies (7)

Problem: How to connect the SSP & my MacBook Pro to the MRCC via USB for MIDI purposes? Basically, 2 computers at once for MIDI.

As can be seen in the above photo, there are 4 HOST USB ports and 1 DEVICE USB port.

The SSP has:

[Image: 30af85ecd677fde1ce886d7d8a862a42e2c95e85.png]

(2)
1 high speed USB host port (leftmost port) with USB ethernet adapter support. (see below for the wiki update)
1 full speed USB host port (middle port) with USB MIDI keyboard support.
(3)
1 USB device port (rightmost port) with USB Audio Class 2.0 support (supports recording into your Mac/PC).

When I play out live, I won't have Ableton/laptop with me. However, in the studio, I'd like both the SSP and the laptop connected, for MIDI, at the same time.
I do not want Ableton to route MIDI to the SSP in the studio as I want to create a single master preset for both studio and live use wherein I can just leave the laptop at home and head out with the SSP and not be forced into establishing 2 workflows.

I'd like to use the SSP's USB port 3 (the DEVICE port) for audio I/O to the laptop when in the studio.

Is there a way to connect the SSP and the laptop to the MRCC, via USB only?
I don't want another USB to DIN device in the chain, if possible.

I only use my MachineDrum (on MRCC port 2 [DIN])  and Ableton as clock masters.
I do use 2 different MIDI controllers with this system but neither generate clock.

[According to this Technobear wiki, both the left and middle USB port of the SSP can be used for networking. I'm not sure if that allows for extra flexibility in solving my quandry.](https://github.com/TheTechnobear/SSP/wik...ort-usages)
Putting it in here just in case it is useful.

Any ideas as to how to connect both the SSP and the MacBook Pro to the MRCC via USB only?

Thanks!

  Uber-Newbie Confusion
Posted by: Clint Goss - 03-25-2023, 09:13 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (4)

Hi All -

Excited to get my new/old NDLR (from Reverb).

  • Updated FW from v1.1.060 to 1.1.079.
  • Hooked up USB to Win10 host running Cantabile (live DAW).
  • Set MIDI port (all the same) and channels (1, 2, 3, 5).
  • Selected Motif 1.
  • Clicked a scale degree (any one, they all produce the same MIDI):

All I get out (monitoring in Cantabile and also viewing with the MidiView App) is:

23.744              1          Controller 123 - All Notes Off          0
                    2          Controller 123 - All Notes Off          0
                    3          Controller 123 - All Notes Off          0
                    5          Controller 123 - All Notes Off          0

That's it. OK, that can really be it ... but I can't cajole the NDLR into sending anything but All Notes Off.

I do get the same CC 123 commands, but on all 16 channels, when I hit [Panic] ...

So what am I missing? I know this be the biggest "Duh" on the planet when some kind person points me in the right direction ...

  Parity: cloning presets across MRCCs
Posted by: Kent - 03-23-2023, 05:23 AM - Forum: General Support - No Replies

I did a search but only found a thread about moving the SD card between units.

What I'd like to do is have one MRCC for the studio and another that is for live shows. I'd like them to be exact copies of each other.

What is the most user friendly method that has been employed by others?

Thanks.

Roland TB-3 over USB causing sync/playback issues
Posted by: hotelbenson - 03-20-2023, 02:58 PM - Forum: Hardware MIDI Connectivity - Replies (3)

Hello! My Roland TB-3 is set up to accept incoming clock messages via MIDI. When I connect the TB-3 with 5-pin DIN cables, there is no problem at all - the internal sequencer on the TB-3 syncs perfectly with the incoming clock (which, if it helps to know, is a Roland TR-8S connected to the MIDI IN section of the MRCC.

However, when I attempt to connect the TB-3 to the MRCC via USB, I get weird playback/sync issues. The sequence does play, but the playback seems to stutter -- the sequence doesn't play back right away (instead, it starts on the second 16th note), the first note will be held for a while, then the next few notes will play back in rapid succession... Like I say, weird.

Here's the setup that's giving me problems:

- Roland TR-8S (as clock source) connected to MIDI IN #1
- Roland TB-3 connected via USB to MIDI IN/OUT D, with the 'out' (aka blue) light selected - I have not clicked the in/green light

As far as I can tell from reading the TB-3 manual, the device has no problem receiving MIDI clock messages over USB.

If someone can help me, it would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

cant make more than 1 routing
Posted by: paulmapp - 03-18-2023, 02:26 AM - Forum: Hardware MIDI Connectivity - Replies (1)

OK, really odd.  Possibly something Ive done/am doing.

I only received my MRCC yesterday (with the 4x1 expander).  took hours to set up lol, noth the MRCC as such, but working out all my routings, and fault finding issues i was getting with the 4x1.

Anyway, got everything working as I wanted it late last night.   My MRCC wasnt on the latest FW, (still had to press shift and save/load) so I updated and everything seemed fine.

This morning I wanted to add an extra USB in (for my iridium.  I had it into the PC port yesterday as it was the only way I could get it talking, as Iridium is a host too) - I found how to configure correctly.  So Im not getting the green LED on the USB port (was getting red before) OPK, all good.  Now the problem.  I can only make a single routing....  This isnt just on the new port.  If I make changes to saved presets I can only make 1...  For instance, I can go to input 1, and ADD  (to my already working preset) Midi out 8, but iI cant add 9.  If I de-select 8 I can then add 9, but cant then add 10 etc.

This was fine yesterday, and before I updated FW (cant remember if I made some changes after or not).

Any ideas at all here?  Im SOOOOOOOOOOOO close to having it set up with 4 presets how I need my setup to work.  The ONLY reason I changed was I really wanted the Iridium to work in a Host port and not use the PC one, or I cant route into my PC (which I wouldnt do often, do I  would want to on occasion).

Any ideas here.  Is it that latest FW?  if so how do I roll back.   Anything else that FW introduced I need to do to make multiple connections?

OK..... More playing.

It seems Im out of connections............  If I removed 5, I can add 5 but no more.

PITA lol

I have each of 4 presets set up correctly at least, but It means I cant add any more gear...... I have a Pro3 to integrate once I move to a slightly larger room - which will need 2 conections (1 in and 1 out) minimum (Id like more - i like to be able to play all my sources from all my keybeds)  There MAY be 2 available... or not.

Secondly, I was going to pick up a NDLR once back available, but theres no way Ill have enough routes to integrate that too....

Going to raise this as a ticket...  I get that if you have too much data flowing you get problems, but I dont.   Im not USING all the connections at once, but a long shot.   ITs just so I can go to any keybed, and play and sound source.    At worst Ill be playing the sequencer (HAPAX) or NDLR (If I can integrate it) but that wont use all the connections up either.

  Changiing Pad Midi Channel
Posted by: Thark - 03-17-2023, 12:32 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (4)

Hi. I just tried to change the midi channel for the pad on my NDLR but it will not change! I can't even get it to switch midi ports. It seems to be stuck on channel 4, port usb1.

The drone and two mofifs are fine. No problems making changes to them. It's just the pad that causing me some grief.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Keith

Question Replacement scree
Posted by: stephencarr - 03-16-2023, 06:20 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (4)

Hey all! So I'm one of the people who leaves their equipment switched on all the time, and now I regret this. I don't look at my MRCC often but I was dismayed to notice the OLED is all burned in and I can barely read some of the menus.

I've now gotten the firmware that has a screen timeout, but that doesn't fix the burn in that's already there.

So, question is, has anyone replaced their screen? Is it doable for a hobbyist? I haven't opened the case up yet, figured I'd ask before going to the trouble only to find out it's surface mounted with thousands of soldiers.

Lower the volume messages sent to synth??
Posted by: Jeremiah - 03-16-2023, 08:47 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (2)

Hello! Not quite sure if this is in the correct place... I have the wonderful MRCC and also recently got a used NDLR at a decent price. I am a home hobbyist dilettante, not even an amateur musician. Just like synths.

I see from the compatibility list that the Korg Minilogue XD is not actually supported.

Having said that... is it possible either the MRCC or the NDLR through it are sending some kind of message to the Minilogue XD to lower it's volume??

Because something like that is happening.

Thanks!

  Does NDLR sent MIDI Clock?
Posted by: racecube - 03-16-2023, 08:23 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (2)

Simple Question, but I can´t receive CLK on any USB looking on the Midi Monitor on my Blokas Midihub.
NDLR is set to internal Clock and in the Shift+Menu Settings to USB 1-4.

Any suggests?
