Question NDLR + MRCC strange things happening to clock
Posted by: stefftastiq - 07-28-2021, 03:41 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (6)

Hi

Im facing some strange issues with the MRCC when connecting the NDLR.

I have a Sqarp Pyramid sequencing some synths (through usb 1) + running the clock, which syncs my computer (Ableton) + all my synths.
This works great (so far).

As soon as i connect the NDLR to one of the MRCC usb ports the clock jumps all over the place (on all devices)
Even when the NDLR has not been routed to anything.

If i put a filter on clock on the output port of the usb port NDLR is connected to it resolved the "jumping clock", but then the NDLR isnt getting sync Sad

Been messing around with this for a while now and need some pro tips of how to fix this.
Found a post with disabling the clock out completely through the boot menu on the NDLR, but that did not help anything at all. (disabled 2 first options and the last option set to 1 instead of 1-4)

Was on the "current" beta, but also updated the ndlr to beta fw trying to figure this out + resetting to factory settings etc.

Can the NDLR be run as "slave" with only using USB?
Also how can this mess up clock on everything even when the USB port its connected to on MRCC isnt routing out to anything?

I see the NDLR sending CC19 (to nothing) every bar on the MRCC display, but all the pads etc are not even set up using USB, so not sure whats going on Smile
help! Smile Huh

update; it works as is should if i use the internal clock on the NDLR, but as soon as i try to "slave" it makes the clock jump around and i would really like to use the pyramid as clock as its quite central in my setup + this also caused the MRCC to freeze up while clock jumping around :|

  NoteOn control: please re-order
Posted by: Dirk Offringa - 07-28-2021, 12:44 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (1)

Hi

Could we please have the black-key note-on messages control the chord degrees in the same order as on the front panel? This is extremely confusing. ("triad-7th-sus2-alt1-alt2-sus4-6th" instead of "alt1-alt2-triad-7th-6th-sus2-sus4" which makes no sense at all and is difficult to memorize: F#3- G#3- C#4- C#3- D#3- D#4- A#3.... go figure :-(

Thanks!

Suggestions for cases for NDLR or MRCC?
Posted by: arkoenig - 07-27-2021, 11:33 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (2)

I'd like some kind of case or bag that will hold the NDLR or MRCC when I'm not using them (or when I want to take them somewhere). Any suggestions?

  External controller CC lag
Posted by: Dirk Offringa - 07-27-2021, 11:21 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (4)

Hi

Because the NDLR doesn't send control midi and I want my performance to be recorded to be edited after the fact (but not the generated notes, the actual commands), I try to command the NDLR over midi. After a LOT of headscratching I finally came to the conclusion that the CC commands have a VERY serious erratic lag. This is especially noticeable when changing degrees and alterations with CC's. With notes all is fine. Is there a setting I have missed or is this a known issue?

Thanks!
Dirk

(external controllers used: mainly Pyramid, Launchpad Mini MK3, but they're not part of the problem, believe me)

  Start/Stop and arming parts
Posted by: cee- - 07-18-2021, 11:03 AM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (7)

Hi,

My NDLR is configured to receive ext. clock. All works fine, I can externally start and stop the jam and change tempo.

However, when I stop ext. while all (or some) parts are playing, there's no way to start over with silent parts. Only if I stop the parts *before* stopping the jam, the parts will be silent on restart.

Is there a way to disarm parts prior to starting?

Thanks + regards from Germany, cee-

  Diminished chords and drone issue
Posted by: Dirk Offringa - 07-17-2021, 01:50 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (2)

Hi, I noticed an issue with harmonies. For instance, in the key of Cm, degree II the pad plays DFG# which is a correct D dim chord, but when we set the drone to play 3 notes it plays DAD.... That A sounds pretty awful against the G# of D dim.

The manual says the the drone plays root+fifth+octave, but this obviousy doesn't work on diminished chords! It should play root+ diminished fifth + octave when the chord is diminished

Could this be filed as a bug report? If using the drone like this, we must avoid the II degree when in minor scale, the VII degree in major scale and so forth. We can work around this using sus4 chords instead of diminished for those degrees but that is not always what suits the piece best.

Thanks!
Dirk

Custom alt-1 and alt-2 chord types
Posted by: Dirk Offringa - 07-17-2021, 04:17 AM - Forum: Feature Requests - Replies (1)

Hi

It would be VERY convenient if we could customize the alt-1 and alt-2 chords. (eg: I often use sus4 in the middle of a transition and that takes a lot of button presses in a very short time for a transitional chord)

Also, I miss  augmented chords, so custom made chords would be nice too.

Thanks!

  Transmit CC NDLR control messages?
Posted by: Dirk Offringa - 07-16-2021, 04:00 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (2)

Hi,

I noticed that the NDLR doesn't send CC's when operated from the front panel. Am I missing something, or does it only receives CC's to be controlled from an external controller? If this is by design, it would be great to if this could be implemented, so we could record a jam in a DAW on a single midi track (say, channel 15, the default for NDLR control), but only the control CC's, not the actual notes being generated. That means we can play the whole thing back and easily edit what we did, instead of record the notes on 4 tracks and edit them individually, which is a tedious task!

Thanks!
Dirk

Turn off NoteOn control in Pattern Editor?
Posted by: Kid Yoshi - 07-15-2021, 10:36 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (5)

If I'm controlling the NDLR via another sequencer which is playing notes to sequence the Chord Degree, when I go into the Pattern Editor these notes mess up the pattern because the Pattern Editor uses NoteOn messages to set the values. I like that idea - but is there a way to disable this?

If you're controlling NDLR with another sequencer then you can't use the Pattern Editor as the NoteOn notes will mess up the pattern. If I stop my sequencer that's controlling the NDLR (so I can go into the Pattern Editor and edit it) I then can't hear what the Pattern will sound like as the sequencer has stopped running.

Help with Control Change composition / latency
Posted by: Kid Yoshi - 07-14-2021, 06:28 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (9)

I'm trying to get my head around using control changes to swap things like change key / mode / inversion etc.

When I make a control change a new note is triggered at the same time. However it feels like CC's are processed with latency so when I'm making multiple Control Changes, because they are not happening together then I get a bunch of notes (one for the scale, one for the mode, one for inversion etc). In general it sounds like a mess and the thing is, as the sequence loops it's not consistent which also lends me to think that the CC's are not either being sent together (source) or received & processed together (NDLR).

I've tried this with both an Octatrack and my DAW (Bitwig) and I get the same problem which makes me think it's the NDLR.

It could of course be me not understanding this correctly... help!
