using vst sequencer to control ndlr in fl studio
Posted by: chaoswyrm - 02-16-2021, 01:40 PM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (7)

hi,

i just got my ndlr the other day and so far i absolutely LOVE it! its been a breeze to set up and get it working. i find its well thought out and most things are pretty intuitive.

with that said...i am having an issue with fl studio...and i do think its more a problem with the daw than the ndlr...but ill ask anyway, maybe someone here has dealt with this already.

what im trying to do is set up a generative environment where i use a vst sequencer (specifically seqcollection2 from hy-plugins) to change the chords on the ndlr. i can do it with no problems via midi keyboard and the midi out plugin in fl studio...but the midi out plugin doesnt (as far as i can see) accept midi from vsts....so i cant seem to get fl studio to send midi from the midi out plugin any other way than a keyboard or the piano roll.

normally, i could just use the piano roll, but the intent here is to have a never ending generative environment that doesnt repeat.

i have a synthstrom deluge that i could do this with...but im really trying to get it to work with my vst sequencers as they are far more robust than the one in the deluge...and ultimately 90% of my workflow is itb anyway.

well...hopefully i have explained my intent and my issue well enough to be understood. feel free to ask clarifying questions, and thanks in advance for any help.

::edit::

i realize i forgot to mention how im set up.

i have the ndlr connected to my computer via usb and am using that to send/receive information with fl studio. i do have several other hardware synths...but everything is controlled by and runs through fl studio via midi din into a presonus audiobox which is then going into my computer via usb.

sorry if im not explaining things correctly...im still trying to get a handle on all this midi and hardware stuff.

Midi controller to program pattern editor & rhythm editor ???!
Posted by: JamsLoud - 02-15-2021, 02:26 PM - Forum: Advanced Features - Replies (3)

Hello! I was wondering would it be possible to use a midi controller like this to edit either the pattern editor or the rhythm editor? It would make programming them more tactile, and jamming on it a lot of fun too!  Cool

  Pause Play "On the Beat"
Posted by: JamsLoud - 02-15-2021, 02:18 PM - Forum: Feature Requests - Replies (7)

Hello! Loving my NDLR

One thing I REALLY wish my NRDL could do was the ability to pause and start the Motif's on the beat... If jamming in the studio or playing out live, it would give a lot more ability to the unit to be able sense when the next beat is coming and start again on beat, and not have to time the start perfectly.

Thanks!   Big Grin

  Power on/off?
Posted by: vgermani - 02-15-2021, 07:53 AM - Forum: Feature Requests - Replies (3)

Hi,  I did some searching but didn't find anything on this subject.  Is there any sort of hidden key combination that will turn the NDLR off/on?  I know it doesn't take much power but it seems that it might be good to turn it off when not in use.  I'm sure there must be some sort of life expectancy on the oled.  I know, unplugging it does the same thing but that adds stress to the port as well.  I keep everything plugged in all the time.  Seems it would be easy to do something in a firmware revision where some sort of key combination could do a poweroff.

Is anybody else thinking about this??

What makes a good (sampler) pad?
Posted by: NigelG - 02-07-2021, 03:48 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (1)

I have a Doepfer Dark Energy which sounds lovely as a pad, but Mono only.

Hooking up my 1010 Blackbox sampler and the poly pads just sound rubbish.

Pretty sure this is down to my choice of samples, so what makes a good poly sample chord sound?

Unable change the pattern on the ndlr

Someone please explain how to change and edit a pattern. Followed the manual and can't get any pattern change whatsoever.

Need help with simple sequencer setup (model:cycles)
Posted by: Seteef - 02-01-2021, 12:09 PM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (8)

Even though I just figured out how to use the chord sequencer (fun!), I'm still interested in the idea of triggering the NDLR with a track from my Model:Cycles so I can compose a song there, with included chord changes, and just mute and unmute tracks on the NDLR as I see fit.

Trying to wrap my head around keyboard (or sequencer) control on the NDLR. So far, the NDLR is not recognizing the notes from the M:C...

Here is my setup:

NDLR:
MIDI Din A out: out to a bunch of synths (INCLUDING the M:C)
MIDI Din B out: out to an Argon8
MIDI Din A in: Keystep in to all synths for live playing
MIDI Din B in: Model:Cycles in to send on/off to trigger all active tracks on MIDI channel 5 (sending one note to the NDLR, like C or D, on the steps where I want it to change in the pattern)

NDLR control set to 5 All, to match incoming midi channel from M:C on midi channel 5
Keyboard control set to MODE 1

Clock going out of NDLR to M:C and (supposedly back into the NDLR at the same tempo, yes?)
Maybe I have to have M:C as master clock for this scenario to work?

The note from the M:C does not start/stop the ndlr, nor does it change the chord being played by the NDLR or any corresponding motifs/drones.

What am I doing wrong? I know others have successfully set this up with a sequencer, but I can't figure it out.

Thanks!
Steve

Missing notes when using a Micromonsta for Pads
Posted by: Pleepy - 01-30-2021, 08:02 AM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (1)

My favorite little polysynth is an Audiothingies Micromonsta. It has 8 voices, so I was excited to get some big chords going with it.

The thing is, it can't seem to do more than 4 voices in a pad. If I crank the number of notes down to four or less, the correct number of notes plays. However, if I turn it beyond that, often only about half the notes actually play. I've never gotten six, seven, or all eight voices to sound at once while using the NDLR.

I can't think of a reason for this. I don't think it's a matter of too many notes being sent at once, because if I recall correctly, changing strum doesn't help. And it shouldn't be waiting for previous notes to decay, because voices still sounding doesn't stop them retriggering when they get new notes. Also, I thought it might be some weird polychain thing, but I've confirmed that I've got polychain set to one and the micromonsta can't take note data in on more than one channel.

Has anybody got any experience with this issue? Any ideas?

  My first NDLR dance music
Posted by: Cyberluke - 01-29-2021, 09:15 AM - Forum: Show me what you got! - Replies (2)

I got a lot of headache with configuration and had to overcome various limits of NDLR with three Ableton Max4Live devices plus StepPolyArp midi processing plugin running on iOS over standard USB Midi cable.

For vocal samples, I used a sample browser with AI (machine learning) for recommendation of the best bits of my samples folder on HDD. It seems quite a nice fit.

But overall it helped me to create more interesting melodic dance music than classic repetitive stuff:
