Wink MRCC empowering my workflow!
Posted by: ghavinga - 07-25-2021, 05:37 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (1)

I just wanted to post a message of thank you. The MRCC is an amazing new multipurpose tool for enabling easily the combining of legacy MIDI and modern USB instruments, sequencers and the likes. You definitely have hit the nail on the head. I am seriously considering purchasing a second one already .....

I finished re-wiring one side of my studio and now am able to dynamically "on the fly" connect all the instruments together without changing a single cable. Switch the MRCC, plus instruments I want to use, on and within seconds I can start playing/composing/fiddling.

Being able to wire both output ports on the Schrittmacher to two input ports of the MRCC is extremely useful. Output port A on the Schrittmacher always sends MIDI clock, even when the sequencer is slaved, but output B doesn't. The MRCC allows me to leave both ports permanently connected (no worries anymore about repeatedly switching the MIDI cables at the back of the Schrittmacher). When I use the Schrittmacher as master clock I can route output A, if it is slaved I use output B, brilliant!

My other sequencer, the Hermod, works very well using one of the MRCC USB connections. The Hermod needs to be configured for routing to "USB Device". Using the Hermod as master clock, clocking is stable on all 10 synths I currently have connected to the MRCC MIDI outs.

Being able, at the same time, to use the Kordbot as creative composing tool, connected via USB to the MRCC and routed where ever I want it, gives me the option to really quickly figure out new chord progressions. If I like the new chord structure, I can record the MIDI data directly into the Hermod. This was my original intention more than 2 years ago, but it was way too much hassle re-wiring every time I wanted to use the Kordbot. Now a simple routing change allows me to send the Kordbot MIDI to any (poly-)synth I have switched on. Directly or via the Hermod. Wow!

I do have the port extender still in it's box. Hopefully I'll be able to set some more time aside soon, to also connect the other side of my studio directly to the extender.

This has become a bit of a longer story than I intended, but my enthusiasm didn't allow me to stop  Wink

  Connecting two mrcc
Posted by: Jedichevy - 07-24-2021, 08:46 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (3)

Hi,
In the manual it says when you connect two mrcc in remote mode you gain 5 pin 12 outputs.  Do you not gain the 5 pin inputs  of the second mrcc also? Has any one tried this? Thanks.

  Diagram for Sketching Connections B&W
Posted by: Kent - 07-23-2021, 12:53 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (3)

Hello all,

Is there a simple black and white diagram of and outline of the panel? I'd like to print one up and sketch out the studio connection possibilities.
There isn't one in either the QS or OM.

Thanks,

Kent

Squarp Instruments Hermod works over USB
Posted by: ghavinga - 07-22-2021, 12:44 PM - Forum: Hardware MIDI Connectivity - Replies (15)

My MRCC arrived yesterday and I started re-wiring my studio bit by bit. I can report that the Hermod Eurorack sequencer by Squarp Instruments works very well.

So far I have tested sequencing several synths using normal MIDI on the MRCC. I connected the Hermod USB device port to port one of the MRCC USB device port and setup the routing to the MIDI out ports (connected 4 synths so far, more to go).

Clock timing is good, all synths I connected follow MIDI clock nicely. I will need to make a few tests to figure out best power-up sequence (Hermod first or MRCC first). I have noticed the Hermod - MRCC over USB combination can take a few seconds to recognize each other, not a big deal and expected when using USB.

Thank you guys, a brilliantly designed product. Especially coming from a good old Roland A-880 .... from the early '80s, this is a huge improvement and well overdue.

  Modifier shortcuts
Posted by: ilmai - 07-21-2021, 11:33 PM - Forum: MRCC Feature Requests - Replies (3)

I wish there was either a button combo or CC control for turning modifiers on/off. Here's my use case:

I'm using the Novation Summit as my master keyboard. Now, its keyboard can be split to play parts A and B, and each part has its own MIDI channel. I often want to for example use the left-hand part for playing an external instrument with MIDI and the right part for playing Summit itself. In this case, I obviously don't want the right part sending MIDI. Unfortunately, I can't disable MIDI channels per part on Summit itself, so currently I'm using Blokas Midihub controlled by Morningstar MC8 foot controller for turning channel filtering on/off as needed.

To simplify my setup, it would be awesome to have this feature right there on MRCC instead, but turning modifiers on/off currently requires a lot of button presses. Having some kinds of button combo shortcuts for turning modifiers on/off, or enabling CC control for them, would be perfect for solving this.

  Midi note/drum mapping
Posted by: ddrrll - 07-21-2021, 06:51 AM - Forum: MRCC Feature Requests - Replies (1)

I’ve got at least as many drum boxes as I do synths and it would be nice to have some functionality geared towards mixing drum sources.
I’d like a filter to be able to assign individual midi input notes from either a sequencer or e-drum pads to alternate midi notes for each machine. It would also be essential to be able to assign each note to an alternate midi output channel, perhaps even it’s own output port.
With this in place a user could simply change presets on the MRCC with a sequencer running and switch to a different drum source or any combination of drum sources on the fly. With the potential to build drum kits from multiple sources this could become super useful to electronic drummers as well.
What do you think?

Assign port labels - not saved globally?
Posted by: oldgearguy - 07-20-2021, 02:34 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (2)

So I forget -- when I create new labels, they are automatically saved in the master list of labels.  Also, I cannot delete any of the factory labels even though I'll never use them, right?

When I use the Assign labels to ports menu, it appears that these label assignments are lost on power down.  The only thing I can guess is that I needed to save the routing patch I was using which means label assignments are on a patch-by-patch basis???

If that's true, I'd like that changed to have label assignments saved globally.  The whole point of a patchbay is that you dynamically change the patching, you don't dynamically change what is being patched.  The only time I edit labels on my Sycologic 16x32 is when I add or delete a piece of hardware.  I create and assign labels globally; routing information is saved with the patch.  The MRCC should also work this way.

(this is not a complaint based on losing an hour+ of work because I now have to reassign 34 input labels and 28 output labels for both MRCCs.  Really, it's not.  It's a complaint for the next time it happens)

  Start/Stop and arming parts
Posted by: cee- - 07-18-2021, 11:03 AM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (7)

Hi,

My NDLR is configured to receive ext. clock. All works fine, I can externally start and stop the jam and change tempo.

However, when I stop ext. while all (or some) parts are playing, there's no way to start over with silent parts. Only if I stop the parts *before* stopping the jam, the parts will be silent on restart.

Is there a way to disarm parts prior to starting?

Thanks + regards from Germany, cee-

  Diminished chords and drone issue
Posted by: Dirk Offringa - 07-17-2021, 01:50 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (2)

Hi, I noticed an issue with harmonies. For instance, in the key of Cm, degree II the pad plays DFG# which is a correct D dim chord, but when we set the drone to play 3 notes it plays DAD.... That A sounds pretty awful against the G# of D dim.

The manual says the the drone plays root+fifth+octave, but this obviousy doesn't work on diminished chords! It should play root+ diminished fifth + octave when the chord is diminished

Could this be filed as a bug report? If using the drone like this, we must avoid the II degree when in minor scale, the VII degree in major scale and so forth. We can work around this using sus4 chords instead of diminished for those degrees but that is not always what suits the piece best.

Thanks!
Dirk

Custom alt-1 and alt-2 chord types
Posted by: Dirk Offringa - 07-17-2021, 04:17 AM - Forum: Feature Requests - Replies (1)

Hi

It would be VERY convenient if we could customize the alt-1 and alt-2 chords. (eg: I often use sus4 in the middle of a transition and that takes a lot of button presses in a very short time for a transitional chord)

Also, I miss  augmented chords, so custom made chords would be nice too.

Thanks!
Dirk
