clock recv on ndlr after rt stop
Posted by: bummertown - 02-10-2024, 09:22 PM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (4)

hi! first time poster... i ran into an issue today that i didn't see documentation or a forum post addressing, but please forgive me if i missed something. i have a digitakt, MRCC, NDLR, and sh-4d, with digitakt sending the clock and start/stop. when i boot everything up, things work as expected, i.e., NDLR is seeing the clock signal and if i arm any of the parts, the NDLR sends the appropriate note messages. however, when i hit stop on the digitakt, NDRL seems to stop receiving clock. looking at MRCC, the clock is still being sent to NDLR, but the indicator stops blinking on the main screen in NDLR and the clock on the menu page does not indicate that clock is being received either. i just upgraded both firmwares to be sure i wasn't missing some fix. any suggestions would be much appreciated!

  Building a software editor...
Posted by: mcmac72 - 02-10-2024, 09:26 AM - Forum: Computer MIDI Connectivity - Replies (4)

The other day I bought the CMC U6 Midi Pro, imagine my surprise when this $40 device came with a simple computer editor to configure the device, set and forget
U6MIDI Pro https://www.cme-pro.com/u6-midi-pro-usb-...ng-filter/

I refuse to believe the same can not be done for a device that costs over 10 X that amount.

I don't really need to hear from people who are happy they don't have this option, you clearly don't use the device to it's full potential.
Anyone who makes use of the 6 inputs and 12 outputs, will know the cable management alone, makes editing on that small screen insufficient... yet alone actually putting the unit in a rack.

This thread is really to start a convo on how to make this a reality - whether directly or through a config file

  Question on glissando effect
Posted by: Tugdual - 02-10-2024, 03:56 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (4)

Several synths allow to tie 2 notes and produce a glissando effect.
It can be done manually by overlapping 2 notes slightly when playing.
Is this feature available with the NDLR? I read the doc and couldn’t figure out what was the actual rythm note on duration. It seems to be fixed and wouldn’t overlap next step. Am I right?

Beyond "Confusing" Chained Channel Map Modifiers
Posted by: indignant.ai - 02-10-2024, 01:17 AM - Forum: MRCC Advanced Configuration - Replies (3)

Just bought, getting ready to return.  Manual says chaining Channel Map modifiers is "confusing" without much further explanation.  Starting to think it's more than "confusing" and just plain broken (does the dev know how to scope a variable.)

What I'm trying to do: I'm trying to route MPE from a Linnstrument to two separate Haken Audio Eaganmatrix Modules (every single DAW and even free MIDI patchbay software can do this easily.)  MPE requires a MIDI channel PER note, I'm trying to get 16 note polyphony (8 voices per module.)

How it should be setup: I have one MIDI out from the Linnstrument so 16 channels max.  Each module can handle around 8 not polyphony so I'm good.  Linnstrument keys are split, half the pads are playing round robin on channels 1-8, the other half are doing the same on channels 9-16.  The modules reserve MIDI channel 1 for various control messages.

The routing I can achieve on almost everything except the MRCC: Linnstrument Left Split goes to first module exclusively (all Ins Port 1 (Linnstrument), all Outs Port 1 (EaganMatrix#1)): Ch 1 In -> Ch 2 Out, Ch 2 In -> Ch 3 Out, Ch 3 In -> Ch 4 Out, Ch 4 In -> Ch 5 Out, Ch 5 In -> Ch 6 Out, Ch 6 In -> Ch 7 Out, Ch 7 In -> Ch 8 Out, Ch 8 In -> Ch 9 Out ------- Linnstrument Right Split goes to second module exclusively (all Ins Port 1 (Linnstrument), all Outs Port 2 (EaganMatrix#2)): Ch 9 In -> Ch 2 Out, Ch 10 In -> Ch 3 Out, Ch 11 In -> Ch 4 Out, Ch 12 In -> Ch 5 Out, Ch 13 In -> Ch 6 Out, Ch 14 In -> Ch 7 Out, Ch 15 In -> Ch 8 Out, Ch 16 In -> Ch 9 Out

How I've tried to set it up on MRCC:  I've tried setting up 4 Channel Maps (why are they limited to 4 channels each!?) with the mappings exactly as listed above.  They are added in sequence in the Routings tab, 2 Channel Maps per output port (i.e. 1->1, CM1, CM2, 1->2, CM3, CM4)

The results: If I set all Channel maps to exclusive (which is required otherwise all notes go to both modules simultaneously) I get one note that makes it through to the first module (MIDI CH 4) not a single other note makes it to either module (seriously!?)  If I set Channel Maps 1, 3, and 4 to exclusive and Channel Map 2 to non-exclusive MIDI Ch 1-4 make it to the first module and nothing else.  If I set CM1 to Y, CM2 to N, CM3 to N, and CM4 to Y I get 4 MIDI channels passing to each module (MIDI Ch 1-4 to module 1, MIDI Ch 13-16 to module 2.)  If I set either CM1 or CM4 to N I get notes going from both splits to both modules.

I know there is some logic here I'm just not getting but man, it is so counterintuitive when it should be very straightforward.  How is it possible that with a $450 piece of hardware designed specifically to route dozens of MIDI cables to each other I'm not able to simply route 16 channels from one cable to two others!?  I'm sorry if I sound witchy and upset, I just had such high hopes for this thing and to be let down from what appears to be an unscoped variable programmatically is disheartening to say the least.  To argue that there is some other magical advantage to this level of convolution on such a simple routing is deceptive.  It's a long post, prob won't get a reply.  Will have to return within the next week or so.  I really wish it had worked out.

is there a way to change the blue color to e.g. green because blue on black is hard to see clearly from a distance.

  KB trans issue
Posted by: dubstationzero - 01-25-2024, 05:44 PM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (4)

owned the original and bought a new ndlr v2 and got here last week. but the  kb trans function is acting really weird .

i've tried all ports and different controllers to different synths all with the same result .

when i press the same key (any key) repeatedly it starts to climb in scale and then back down as if there is a midi feedback loop .

i'm using all stand alone linear hardware,  5 pin midi controller to midi b in to ndlr out midi b and to the synth . powered ndlr by separate usb wall wart .there is no possible way any feedback loop is occurring.

like i said tried all ports and different controllers

i hooked it up to ctrlr.org's midi monitor to see what was happening and the note off number is not matching the note on number and each time the same key is pressed different note on and off values occur

i tried re flashing the firmware but didn't help.  all other functions working perfectly fine .  monitoring midi messages on the other motifs and the note on # is matching the note off #

perplexed ...

MRCC: A MIDI Channel to send to all?
Posted by: orangeLollies - 01-23-2024, 03:20 PM - Forum: MRCC Advanced Configuration - No Replies

Hi Guys,

I feel like I might be missing something real simple? ...But I'd like to know the best approach to allow the following:

MIDI channels 1-15 trigger individual devices, provided they are routed
MIDI channel 16 will trigger all routed devices

eg:
playing via MIDI port 1 will trigger Hydrasynth
playing via MIDI port 2 will trigger TB-3
playing via MIDI port 16 will trigger both the Hydra and the TB-3

I know I can do this using Channel Map Mod:

Channel Map #1 (Hydra)
Input 1: Output 1
Input 16: Output 1

Channel Map #2 (TB3)
Input 2: Output 2
Input 16: Output 2

However, this will only support up to six output devices, as there are only six Channel Maps available.

What if I have more than six output devices?
Is there a way to just tell the MRCC that MIDI channel 16 sends to all?

Appreciate your feedback ?

cheers
Shane

CC Mods and Midi Note Numbers
Posted by: Ryan G - 01-22-2024, 11:13 AM - Forum: MRCC Advanced Configuration - Replies (2)

So I think my issue is coming down to me not understanding midi as well as I should yet -I just know enough to be dangerous- but I wanted to verify here my problem:

What I was hoping to do
I have 16 pads for drums on my Launchpad pro which I would like to use to trigger the 16 pads for drums on my mc 707. (yes i have too much gear for my own good, let's dismiss that).
This almost works fine, but the numbers (cc numbers? midi note numbers?) don't all align perfectly. So it leaves four pads on my launchpad that are unresponsive.
I thought "oh good thing I have an mrcc, I can just map those pads to their corresponding ones on the mc707!). This did not work.

even though I see the corresponding numbers show up in the mrcc midi monitor, I think I am now understanding that these are 'midi note' numbers and not exactly 'cc messages/numbers'.
and therefore the cc modifier will not map these midi notes.
Is that true? Am I now understanding that correctly?

to be clear - I have successfully mapped a mod pedal elsewhere to the filter cutoff on my volca keys, which is very cool, very happy for the mrcc for that, so I know mapping cc values can be done in that regard.

Is there another workaround I could use with the mrcc to change those midi notes/numbers? It seems 'note mapping' is not quite that from what I can tell, at least not for my needs anyway.

thanks in advance! I hope this is enough info to at least see the problem, but I can specify more if needed.

  Reverse routing
Posted by: AL1_1956 - 01-22-2024, 06:36 AM - Forum: MRCC Feature Requests - Replies (1)

Hello to all.

I have been able , thanks to Kris, to have the MRCC play Chords and Arps in the chosen scale
At least it works with chords of the C major scale ( C Dm Em F G Am Bdim).

But its a little tricky and I need 4 physical midi cables to make it work.

So I was thinking that it would be much simple if we had reverse routing (from midi out to midi in)

I do not know if the hardware permits this reverse routing.

Have a nice day

Alain

  Pad notes 'sticking'
Posted by: DocJoe - 01-21-2024, 12:58 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (1)

Hi folks,

My NDLR (a MK 1) is setup so that the PAD notes are on MIDI channel 5 (using USB1). I have a Launchpad Pro Mk 3 connected to the MIDI A, sending notes to be harmonized on channel 9. I use the Launchpad as a keyboard, with the NDLR handling all the sequencing and harmony.  The NDLR and the LP3 are both synced to my DAWs (Bitwig) most of the time.

Normally, this works perfectly well. However, since the latest upgrade (which is AWSOME, by the way)  I find then when I play notes in via the LP3, the Pad often (not consistently) will get stuck and just continually play a chord. It requires a midi panic hit (Shift Panic) to stop.  If I change the chords on the NDLR, the previous 'stuck' notes continue to play. If I stop the Pad via the NDLR, the stuck notes continue to play.

I do not think this is an issue with Bitwig, as it also happens when I connect the set-up to other software, such as Voltage Modular.  It also happens on all the computers I use.

I am wondering if this is a bug that's crept in, or if it is an issue with my setup.  Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Best regards,
Joe
