  MIDI Sync with External Sequencers
Posted by: drGrov - 12-29-2018, 10:37 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (3)

Hi all.

I've just got my NDLR and I'm having fun integrating it with my setup.

I've been testing the sync with an external sequencers (a Deluge in my case) and seem to be having some problems with sync. The Deluge is set up with simple 4 beats to the bar drum pattern. The NDLR is the master clock and is also sending start/stop messages. I set the clock divider for both motifs to /1 so the note patterns would match the rhythm from the Deluge.

From stopped, I can start one of the motifs using the relevant button and everything is in sync. The Deluge drum beats are in time with the motif notes.

However, if I start from the "All" button, the NDLR seems to pick up the sequence from where it last stopped and the Deluge drum beats can be out of sync with the motifs. When this happens, I can stop/start motif 1 and it will be back in sync with the Deluge but out of sync with motif 2 (until I stop/start motif 2).

There's definitely something odd going on.

Midi sync start/stop on pattern first step

Hello Conductive Labs,

Got the NDLR today and love it, thank you for the fantastic work!

However, how do you start sequences from Step 1? It seems that "play" will always "continue" from where you previously paused. When using in sync with a DAW, your nice sequences will be messed up as soon as you stop and restart because then, your DAW will restart from step 1, but not the NDLR.

Reproduce with internal sync: make a simple motif to identify first step (length 8, div 1/2, all steps value 0, except first step value 10). Play/Pause a few times and you'll hear it never starts on the same step. I expected it to always start on step 1. (or have an option to do so)

Reproduce with DAW sync: Use that same simple motif to identify first step. Sync with a DAW and put the DAW metronome. I expected step1 to play on metronome first beat, but thats not always the case. (unless you're lucky and pause on last step i guess)

Am i missing something?
Thanks for your help

  Eurorack + NDLR

Hey Everyone,

I've been having some fun with the NDLR and wanted to post a picture of my current eurorack rig.  I'm still trying to get the hang of some of the NDLR's features, so it might be a minute before I can post audio that I'm happy with.  Still, this is an exciting next step!  Thanks to the Conductive Labs team for sharing this cool box with the world!

  Pad Latch/Unlatch?
Posted by: tomoe97 - 12-20-2018, 06:35 PM - Forum: Feature Requests - Replies (1)

I'm really enjoying NDLR, but have a question about Pad mode. When one engages Pad mode, it remains latched until play stops. Is there any way to have the Pad mode only play as long as a given chord button is pressed and release as soon as one stops pressing? In some contexts, it's more musical to have a Pad play continuously; however, in other contexts, it would sound more musical to my ears if a Pad could be released and decay naturally each time one presses and releases a chord button. Is there any way to accomplish this currently without having to constantly turn Pad mode on and off manually via Play/Pause? Perhaps a Pad latch/unlatch parameter?

The NDRL makes a brief visual cameo in this clip from last night's rehearsal. Pad is controlling a Novation Peak and Motif 1 is controlling a Roland JU-06. It's been getting a lot of milage in my band jams lately. Smile

  Some UI comments/questions

The red ring around the stopped white circle is very difficult to see for me.  Around the blue  'playing' circle it's fine.  Maybe when a part is stopped, fill the circle in red to make it more obvious?

I don't know how much of an outlier this next one is, but I don't use USB at all.  It would be nice if there was a way to select which ports are active for my setup so when I scroll through the MIDI channels, I only see what I'm (potentially) using.

  Drone ticks
Posted by: oldgearguy - 12-19-2018, 03:07 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (10)

Got the NDLR and have some time to play around this morning.  So far, loving the functionality and am quickly getting used to the menu system.

One thing I noticed - I am using an HX3 organ module for the drone and I'm hearing a slight 'tick' on the 1.  Hooked up a MIDI monitor and noticed that I'm seeing note off/on messages at the start of every bar and that's causing the brief ticking sound.

Is it possible to configure the Drone section to really be a drone - i.e. - note on until I press Stop or change note values?

crazy chaining or more organicity from motif channels
Posted by: funktree - 12-18-2018, 08:37 AM - Forum: General Support - Replies (1)

I want higher notes from motif to be generated with lover velocity values. ( I know I should do this on the synth mod matrix but not all have that option)  Do you think this could work:

1. Route "MIDI B out" to "MIDI A in" via smart MIDI merge (B channel 1 to A channel 15 control channel)
2. Set modulation source to Velocity
3. Set modulation destination to CC of velocity (I don’t think that is available, there is no CC and velocity is NOT exposed as destination)
4. Invert the MOD range (I don’t think this is possible either)
5. Now the higher notes are played with lover velocity,

Is this idea too crazy ? looping MIDI B to MIDI A ?

****

I see bunch of scenarios to “tweak" the MOTIF results like this. In the worst case add MOTIF rhythm/tune output as modulation source and perhaps ability to reverse the range on on destination. Then I can have any CC to be tweaked by note or velocity.

While on this, do you think it would make sense to add to Humanization Note length or Note nudging ?  Slight variation would make the results more organic. (I’m constantly changing decay on percussive patches to use S&H or random)

I have to stop with these posts b/c there just so much work you guys have to do before the year ends ... and Im bugging you with these features right ?
