Another day another cool synth Korg Wavestate
Posted by: Darryl - 01-06-2020, 10:38 PM - Forum: Synths and Gear News, Discussion - Replies (2)

Dang, another cool synth is announced. I've got a Blofeld, two mono evolvers and a poly evolver. Do I need another wave synth? I think the answer is, of course I do!  Big Grin Always wanted a vector synthesis synth like the Fizmo (transwave), but they are big and expensive.  This might be the one, we'll see about the price.

  Chord button functionality?
Posted by: asteralesmusic - 01-05-2020, 01:54 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (4)

I could have sworn I was using chord buttons to preview chords without having to start the pad part, but now they don't do anything except change the chord type. I've tried resetting everything (even though it doesn't seem to have wiped out previously saved chord sequences, midi channel settings, etc?).  It seems to work fine other than that so am I imagining a feature that doesn't exist? Also, would expect a factory reset to completely erase previous settings.

Minilogue XD as MIDI controller broke the NDLR?
Posted by: yyj2 - 01-05-2020, 12:36 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (4)

This morning I setup controlling the NDLR with my Minilogue XD’s keyboard.  Changing chords appeared to be working fine but when I went to change the patch on ML the NDLR screen got all screwed up and now the drone and pad position indicators on the top of the screen are missing and none of the parts seem to play.  I tried to flash with the latest beta firmware but still the same issue as before the update.  Any ideas?

EDIT: read the manual and realized there was a boot menu with factory reset... this corrected my issue. would be interesting to know what exactly happened though.

Bug USB Midi Clock runs at 2x or 4x with Deluge
Posted by: mbessey - 01-05-2020, 11:25 AM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (10)

I ran into an interesting issue while traveling with my NDLR and my Synthstrom Deluge. If I use USB Host mode on the Deluge to power the NDLR and connect to the Deluge, then the MIDI clock runs at 2x or sometimes 4x the tempo setting on the NDLR. At home, I have everything connected with MIDI cables, and the clock sync works as expected.

I would guess that the NDLR is sending clock messages out on all USB MIDI devices, and the Deluge is interpreting them as coming from the same device (since its USB Host mode doesn’t really support multiple devices).

There are various workarounds, including not connecting USB between the devices, but it is a pretty convenient setup otherwise, in that I don’t have to carry around a separate power supply for the NDLR, and a 5-pin MIDI cable. It’d be nice to have an option on NDLR to not send clock messages to all USB devices, maybe automatically if all parts are routed to USB1, for instance?

Please put this on page ONE of the manual
Posted by: Bigsniff - 01-04-2020, 03:05 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (1)

"The NDLR accepts these messages ONLY on the MIDI 5 Pin port B and USB port 1, all SSC messages on other ports are IGNORED. "

I just beat my head against the wall for 30 minutes trying to figure out why this wasn't working, because I was using in A. Something like this shouldn't be buried deep in the depths of the manual! Now, where's the Advil....  Angry

Encoder issue and a suggestion for bigger chords
Posted by: mage2k - 01-03-2020, 09:41 PM - Forum: General Support - Replies (3)

Hello,

I received my NDLR and, while I've been having a blast my Matriarch and soft-stuffs with it, however: Value changes via knob movements are very inconsistent in that it can be very hard to dial in specific values with the way the knobs pick up movements/changes.  A couple examples when dialing in settings in the mod matrix:

* For any given slot when changing the source, destination, or destination value it can take two or three clicks of the given knob before the value changes.

* When making changes to mod amount it can be difficult to get it to land a value change of +1/-1 as it seems it will often register it between knob "click" spots such that when letting go of the knob it slides either way into the "click" spot and thus either doesn't change the value or ends up with a +2 or -2 change.

With clicky encoders like this a single click should equal a single value change vs. nothing or +2/-2 as described above.  What's the point of the clicky encoders otherwise?

If any of the above described behavior is not expected let me know.  I'm in Portland and would be down to bring it to you wherever you're located to have a look at it.

Now for a suggestion:

* Working in the ability to build out extended chords beyond 7ths would be awesome, especially for the pad mode.  Maybe a Pad Editor and/or more chord types available in the Chord Sequence Editor?  That'd really add to the unit's utility as a theory-driven composition device.

USB ports not appearing when connected to iconnectivity Mio XL
Posted by: Bigsniff - 01-01-2020, 06:48 AM - Forum: MIDI Connectivity - Replies (23)

Curious what’s going on here. I have an Iconnectivity Mio Xl that has 10 USB host ports. It works great with any USB MIDI device I own except the NDLR, which is not being recognized when I connect it. The NDLR powers up when connected and works great but is not appearing as a USB device. I otherwise successfully have a keystep, cirklon (which appears as 6 USB devices), SQ1, microfreak, minilogue XD, Kordbot, SE engine, and more connected to these USB host ports. Any idea why the NDLR isn’t being recognized and what I can do to remedy it?
