Basic question about routing midi clock/run to DAW

Both sending to and receiving from the PC requires selecting one or more (of 12 max) virtual connections (ports).  In your scenario, hold the right PC button and select any of the 12 output buttons while holding, and that number(s) will correspond with available MRCC ports in your software, of which there are 24, 12 input and 12 output, which can then be assigned to an instrument or controller such as your drum machine.  I've heard Ableton can sync to external clock; most DAWs apparently can't.
